temping question

So, currently I am waiting on my period to start so that next cycle I can start temping. If I continue a 28 day cycle (which I don't count on because this is my first true AF since bcp), then it should start Friday.

Anyway, after reading all the things about temping, I still have a question....

Last time I was TTC (10 years ago!!!), the advice was to take your temperature at the same exact time every day. Meaning, if I take it at 5 am on week days when I wake for work, then on weekends, I need to wake myself at 5 am to take my temperature as well. I read in the notes on the blog about temping that you take your temperature at waking every morning. Does that change if the time you wake changes???

Also, does the temperature in the room matter? For instance, my DH keeps it frigid in the house at night and I freeze!

Any advice would be awesome!! Happy Monday, ladies!

Ok thanks!!! I was just remembering how it was 10 years ago, I had people like virtually fussing at me via the TTC boards (not here) because I didn't wake up at exactly the same time every single day. It was tough, lol.

For me, I wake up at 5 every morning.  On the weekends I still wake up to temp and then go back to sleep.  It's not a big deal to me, but I know it is tricky for people with LO.  As others have said, it will depend on what works for you.  As long as you can see the temp swings, you are good.  Good luck!

To figure out what worked best for me, I did a month of temping when I first woke up after 3 hours of sleep, and a month of temping at the same time.  For me, it's the time and not the hours of sleep.  If my temps are "important" on a weekend, I set an alarm.  If my temps aren't very important (way before O or a week or so after O), I usually just don't temp.

I do this. Throughout the month I actually stopped needing my alarm to wake me up no matter what day it was. I genuinely get excited to record my temp in the morning.

I actually have to wake up at the same time everyday to see a shift but some people can see a shift no matter when they wake up after sleeping for 3 hours.  If I sleep even 1 hour past my normal wake up time my temp jumps by .5-1 degree.

So yes, since I wake up at 5:30AM on weekdays, I wake up at 5:30AM on weekends, temp, and then go back to sleep.
Same. I feel like the time I temp is important for me.

I set my alarm for 5am seven days a week. My first month, I temped whenever I woke up and my chart that month was terrible. However, I can sleep like a champ, it's one of my best skills, so it's easy for me to go back to sleep afterwards so it doesn't affect me too much to temp at 5am and go back to sleep.

I work shift work- some days I have to wake up at 4 am, and others I wake up when  my toddlers starts calling "Mooooomeeeee.  Me awake now!" which is around 7am or so.  I've just accustomed to waking up at 3:50 every day (even weekends), taking my temp, scribbling it on a piece of paper next to my bed with one eye open and rolling over to go back to sleep.  I put the info into Fertility Friend later in the day.
