Someone from GP posted this. He died this week in the bahamas due to a seizure. I guess he had a history of it too. How said, he was only 16. Thoughts to his family

I'm sorry if this is a really dumb question, but I'm a teacher, and I have not been told that any of my students have seizures, but my DH's aunt does- she does not talk about it, so I have no clue what to do. What are you supposed to do if someone around you goes into a seizure? I would obviously call the nurse to come to my class ASAP, but in the meantime, what should I be doing to make sure that that student stays safe as they go through their seizure?

Not a dumb question at all...I'm a PA, I was always trained to just keep them from hurting themselves and choking. You can't prevent it or shorten it (without meds). So you lie them down and hold their arms and legs, and put a tongue depressor (I guess you could use a popsicle stick) to hold their tongue down (so they don't swallow it and choke) and to try to keep them from biting/cutting their tongue with their teeth...and obviously call 911!

Thanks for the help--- I'm always nervous when I'm at DH's aunt's house - she has a 3 year old and her 80 year old mother lives with her b/c of the seizures- but I need to study up on how to save people when they are in danger esp. since I'm a teacher! One more thing to add to my list. Thanks again for the help!
Oh no! I just read this story and started to cry. We have radio personality in my town who is John Travolta's niece (Ellen Travolta, John's sister is her Mom). I've spoken to her on the phone a few times for business reasons. She's a great lady and REALLY close with her family. Of course, I really don't know them...but this made me so sad because I know how tight knit their family is.
I just heard he was Autistic and they probably didn't give him the medication he needed bc of religious beliefs....
THIS is how terrible rumors get started. He was not autistic, he had Kawasaki disease. It was why he had seizures.
It was what I read in all reports about it so far. I guess you can't believe everything you read. But Autism also causes seizures. My step brother is Autistic and on tons of medication. My heart goes out to the family and anyone with these diseases.
I know this is easy to say online, but I used to date john's personal trainer 7or 8 years ago when they were all in town working on a movie and I used to woek out with them every night for a few months. Anyhoo...his son does have autism, but John doesn't "accept" that. I don't know anything about his meds, but that part is true.
And for the record, he is the nicest man you will ever meet and he used to take his family out to the movies in the middle of the night all by themselves to avoid other people. He is very srange, but just the sweetest man. I hate it for him. He loves his family more than anything. ...always talked about his son although I never met him.
oh that is sad - i met JT when I was in highschool - about 16 years ago and he was out with his wife and at the time his son was just a baby and he was so nice to my little group of high school girlfriends and his wife was nice enough to take pics of all of us with john and their son.
