Slow rising betas...

Hey girls,
I recently posted my story here :
https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12300388/first-time-posting-ectopic#latest
5w1d right now  and my betas are:

4w1d: 74
4w3d : 174
4w5d: 260
5w1d: 289

They did an ultrasound today since we're supposed to go to Mexico on vacation tomorrow, and the tech thinks she saw a gestational sac in the uterus (they had been very concerned about an ectopic).
They called me just now with result of beta and are telling me that it's either ectopic or I will miscarry.
Anyone have any words of wisdom or experience with betas that rise this slow? I'm just so heartbroken right now...thinking of cancelling my trip

Re: Slow rising betas...

  • Mine did a regular double, followed by a weird slow rise and then a drop, then followed by another weird rise. While they can't see a sac with betas that low (they need to be over 2000 to see a sac with a t/v ultrasound, I've never had anyone say they could see anything except maybe a corpus luteum or thickened lining), mine were about 1300 when they could see a possible slight widening of the fallopian tube (even then, it was an educated guess based on several things).

I would be very leery of anyone saying they could see a sac with betas of less than 500. Very leery. I would not go out of town. If possible, I would talk to your doctor about treatment with methotrexate if they are suspecting an ectopic and you don't start miscarrying with dropping betas. I bled heavily for a week with my ectopic and it was assumed I was miscarrying naturally after the first beta drop. They should be following your betas to 0. If I hadn't felt like my bleeding was not normal and gone to the doctor, I would have never known that might betas went back up which put me at higher risk for ectopic. The good thing is that if they catch it early there's a better chance of treatment using drugs and possibly saving your tube. My doctor was not willing to let it go long enough to risk rupture.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and I hope you and your doc can make the best plan for you.
