Cloth Diapering

Do you unsnap the rise in your OS to wash?

With DS1 I rarely unsnapped the rise in his BG OS diapers when I washed them, but with DS2 I've been trying unsnap everything for washing.
I thought they might get cleaner this way, but my worry is if I'll just end up with more snap/PUL issues down the road for all the extra unsnapping?  I'm not sure that would matter since every time I put them on him I'm snapping and unsnapping (they are all snap, no aplix).
So what do you ladies do? Do you unsnap them to wash or just leave them be?

  • Nope.  Why add extra work?  Plus the wear and tear on the snaps.  Leave 'em.

  • Nope.  I just leave em snapped.

  • Nope. The snaps don't change how much of the inside is exposed. The washer gets to it all no problem.

Unsnapping didn't even cross my mind! Glad to know that it is good to just leave them as they are.

  • Never unsnap them. I have never even though to do so.

  • They should get clean just fine without unsnapping the rise.

I generally do unsnap the rise before washing, my rationale being that I find they line dry slightly quicker unsnapped.  The couple times I've forgotten to unsnap them the outer fabric where they are snapped up tends to hold some water / be the last part of the diaper to dry. And if I want them to dry unsnapped best to unsnap the before washing than after.

To my mind its a toss up whether its more wear on the snaps to be unsnapped and re-snapped or to have them snapped up and pulled at during the wash cycle.  I have snaps rather than H&L and I figure even with unsnaping & re-snapping the rise, the rise snaps won't get any more wear than the waist snaps so it shouldn't shorten the life of the diaper.
