I'm sad.

Yesterday I was commenting to DH that I wish my best friend would call me.  She got a new cell phone a couple months ago and I somehow lost her number, so I've just been waiting for her to call. 

So last night she called to tell me her mom passed away yesterday.  It makes me feel terribly sad that now every new year she will associate it with the day her mom died.

I'm so sorry.  Perhaps when she is a little more able to talk about it you can suggest that each new year will be beautiful bc her mom will be watching over her each time the calendar turns?

No words. I do the same with Christmas b/c of my best friend who passed.  It's always bitter sweet.  You have her number again, now, and can be there for her.

I like that idea about her mom watching over her while the year turns.  It makes me cry just thinking about saying that to her, but in a little while, I think I will offer that to her.  And yes, I have her number now so I'll definatly be there.  Won't loose that one again!
