EMERGENCY GALLBLADDER SURGERY

So this weekend sucked, this week pretty much too. Today (Wednesday) is my birthday, and Saturday night I went into the ER with severe upper abdominal cramps. After about an hour of them saying it was heartburn and me fighting them telling it's not-finally the ER doc pushed on my gallbladder and I screamed. I had emergency laparoscopic gallbladder surgery Sunday morning and was released last night. I'm still in a ton of pain and would appreciate some T & P from my bumpies. I have 4 abdominal incisions, and recovery time is supposed to be 13 days-a month. Is it still too early to do TP Thursday to my gallbladder lol?

    2008 - 2010: dragging my feet out of fear and procrastination
    October 2010: first consultation with RE, dx PCOS and fibroids (DH slightly low count/motility)
    Oct. 2010 - Dec. 2012:  In DENIAL! avoided the issue because I was scared of surgery
    January 2013: returned to RE, fibroids grew significantly
    February 2013: second HSG, fibroids pushed on tubes which blocked them somewhat
    March 2013: MRI to determine what type of surgery may be necessary
    July 29, 2013: fibroids (5) removed via robotic laparascopy
    August 2013 - Nov 2013 : benched due to recent surgery

    IUI #1, Dec. 24, 2013, BFN 
    IUI #2, Jan. 25, 2014, BFN
    IUI #3, Feb. 25, 2014  BFN
    IUI #4 canceled due to lack of response to letrozole
    IUI #4.1 April 28, 2014, BFN
    May 16, 2014: wtf consult, start prepping for IVF in June and add injects for one last IUI in the meantime
    IUI #5 started letrozole and bravelle but canceled after HSG led to new diagnosis
    May 21, 2014: third HSG, tubes blocked, one at the beginning, one hydrosalpinx??
    June 11, 2014: consult, approved to move on to IVF because the hydro is not completely blocked therefore allowing fluid to move through slowly rather than backwards
    IVF #1 August 8, 2014 - 3dt of 2 embryos, BFN
    September 17, 2014 - 4th HSG, the right tube is very patent (open!!) dye went straight through this time. Weird!
    October 2, 2014 - started metformin treatment
    November 14, 2014 - blood work, brought A1C down from 5.8 to 5.5
    November 26, 2014 - RE finally back from vaca and reviewed my chart, no more IVFs for rest of calendar year
    December 1, 2014 - Right after Thanksgiving, I called a new clinic and got in right away! Plan for IVF
    December 17, 2014 - ER! 29 retrieved (!!), 16 mature, all 16 fertilized (ICSI)
    IVF #2 December 20, 2014 - 3dt of 3 embryos, BFN

    We are done with treatment unsuccessfully. :(

    Aug 2013 - SA: Counts & Motility = great, Morph = 1%; RE didn't seem too concerned

    Me: 26
    Jan. 2014 - Blood work ordered by obgyn:  Prolactin = high & AMH = low (0.73)
    Feb. 6, 2014 - Repeat blood work ordered by obgyn:  Prolactin = normal & AMH = low (0.9)
    Feb.  20, 2014 - First appointment with RE
    Feb. 24, 2014 - HSG scheduled;  DX:  one tube definitely open & one tube could be blocked
    Mar. 7, 2014 - CD 21 Blood work for Progesterone; DX:  Progesterone level at 5.2; shows I ovulated but was low
    Mar. 28, 2014 - Laparoscopy; DX:  Tubes open.  Found some endometriosis and had that removed.

    June 2012 - March 2013:  When it Happens/it happens method = BFN
    March 2013:  Started using Fertility Friend
    Cycles 1 - 15 with Fertility Friend = BFN
    Cycle 16 - Benched due to Laparoscopy
    Cycle 17 - Natural Cycle = BFN
    Cycle 18 - Natural Cycle = BFN
    Cycle 19 - Natural Cycle = BFN

    Yikes! Here's to a quick recovery. I say you definitely get to take a raincheck on this birthday! I mean, I hope the actual day is good, but you are totally justified to take a day when you're all healed up and do something fun in order to celebrate properly. Glad you are OK!

    Oh nooooo!!!!  I feel your pain :(  I hope you still get to celebrate your birthday at a later date.  Gall bladder surgery isn't much fun.  I had mine taken out in 2011 (13 days before my wedding) and it was tough to adjust.  I was down and out barely able to walk for about 3 or 4 days.  Then I slowly began getting out and about (day 3 I had to have a final fitting for my wedding dress).  I don't know if you take Metformin, but expect similar side effects.  I was sick after everything I ate for about a week and then after that it was only sporadic meals that made me sick.  I will say that the day before my wedding was the first day I felt completely normal and had full energy which was about day 12.  I hope things recover quickly.  I'll be thinking about you!

    Treatments:  6 Months Lupron Depot injections; 1500 mg metformin; 3 cycles of Clomid + TI = BFN

    3 endometrial biopsies all were "out of phase" 

    September - December, 2013:  Break to lose weight and get healthy

    40 lb weight loss but still not ovulating "in phase"  

    February - March 2014: bcps + follistim + trigger + TI = BFP

     Beta #1 (12dpo): 30; Beta #2 (18dpo): 500; Beta #3 (25dpo): 7,000!!!

    So sorry that you had to have emergency surgery.  I'm wishing you a safe, speedy and healthy recovery buddy.

    OMG @pcrumley!!! I'm so sorry to hear that! You sincerely have my prayers hun. :( I've had lap surgery twice and I would not wish that to be sprung unexpectedly on anyone. I hope your job wont give you any problems. Can you take STD for this? Definitely take some time to relax and heal.

    Thanks everyone, I fought them on the heartburn diagnosis, because 1-I've never had heartburn a day in my life, and when my sister did she would just pop some antacids. 2-what kind of heartburn makes you feel like a caged animal that can't lie down..no matter what position I tried, I couldn't get comfortable, laying down, upside down, sideways, on the floor, sitting up, didn't matter,... --they wouldn't listen to me until I took the antacid and was still bitching. Lol. . My husband gets frequent kidney stones, and his attacks mimicked what I was going through, constant throwing up, coughing, inability to be comfortable, no pain med could help. Immense pressure. I'm glad I fought for myself. I knew something was wrong, it felt like a balloon was constantly being inflated inside my abdomen. SO MUCH PRESSURE. . My surgeon was great! Best one in the county, and IF always has a way of sneaking into our lives, and he had explained that him and his wife struggled with IF for 9 years, my nurse was also DOR, so it helped. She actually goes to the same RE. Surgery felt amazing. . All that pressure and pain, gone. . I'm 3 days post op and feel slightly okay. I feel like I have to barf. But what's new. . I couldn't believe how common gallbladder surgery is for women. .

    Awww! I'm so sorry! What horrible timing too. :-/ 

    When I had my gallbladder out I was pretty much back to normal within a week or so, and I was feeling decent in a few days. Plus, all of my symptoms disappeared and I actually felt much better. I just say this to give you some hope that your recovery will be quicker than you might have heard already. I hope you're feeling better soon!

    DX: Me - DOR & tubal issues, DH: none. 
    June 2004: Ectopic pregnancy with DH while dating
    October & November 2013: IUI #1 & 2 - BFN
    December 2013:Taking a break, trying on our own.
    January 2014: BFP!!!! Ectopic pregnancy ruptured at 6wks1day. Left Fallopian tube removed. Noted during surgery the right Fallopian tube is severely damaged from 2004 ectopic pregnancy.
    April 8 2014: IVF#1 w/ISCI: 10 received, 5 mature, 3 fertilized. Day 3 transfer of all three embies.
    April 22, 2014: BFP! beta #1: 80 beta #2: 211 One nugget!

    RE referral from ObGYN in late Jan. 2013 -- Testing Confirms Unexplained IF 

    IUI #"s1 - 3 (Femara + IUI) April - June 2013 - all BFN

      Decided to do IVF... Began stimming on September 10th!  Egg Retrieval 9/20/13.  19 eggs: 6 to mature to freeze after 6 fertilized with ICSI

     3 morula stage embryos transferred on 9/25/13.....Beta #1 on 10/4/13/ = 7.5  Beta #2 on 10/6/13 =  negative

      IVF#2 - Lupron plan  (set to begin on 10/28/13)  (Planning on thawing and fertilizing our 6 eggs with ICSI as well as all of the mature eggs they retrieve with this fresh cycle.)

     Late October 2013 - ectopic pregnancy - methotrexate injection....benched 3 months

    CD1 - 12/5/13...Lupron set to start on 12/26/13; CD1 - 1/2/14....Baseline 1/3/14....begin follistim tonight and continue with lupron.  (Got my calendar today!  IVF#2 is a go!)

    ER = 1/14/14  (11 eggs....9 were mature. 9 fertilized.  Of the 6 mature eggs we thawed, only 4 fertilized.  At this time, we have 13 eggs fertilized and growing.  Waiting for news about a 3-day or 5-day transfer.)

    ET = 1/19/14  (5dt).....3 blastocysts transferred!   (All nine embryos didn't make it to freeze.  =(  )

    Beta #1 = 1/28/14   (2 weeks after ER)  BFP! 209 (9dp5dt)   EDD 10/7/14

    Beta #2 - 1/30/14  (11 dp5dt) 302

    I'm sorry, FX for a speedy recovery! I had mine out about 6 years ago. The first 3 days were rough bug I felt pretty good after that, as long as I didn't push myself too hard. I was back to work and totally healed in 2 weeks. I can barely even see my incisions, I had 4 too because they had a little trouble getting it out. Hopefully you are on the mend very soon!     Me (35) no known issues DH (37) MFI. TTC 21 months (24 cycles)
    Dx MFI with low to normal count, low motility, morphology 3%
    HSG normal, ultrasound and labs on me all normal. 

    1 cycle of Clomid 50mg and TI, unmonitored by OBGYN= BFN
    1 cycle of Clomid 50mg and IUI, unmonitored by OBGYN= BFN
    Started seeing an RE!!
    2 more cycles of clomid 50mg (great response), with IUI and Pregnyl trigger (4.8-8 mil good ones after wash) = all BFN
    1 cycle of clomid 50mg (3-7) followed by Follistim 75iu (7-11) + IUI = BFN
    December 2013 DH saw urologist and is taking Anastrozole, CoQ10, and L-Carnitine
    IUI #5 natural cycle (needed a med break) = BFN
    IUI #6 Follistim 75iu (CD3-10) + Pregnyl (CD11) + IUI (final count after wash 300K) = BFN
    IUI #7 Follistim 75iu (CD3-9) + Pregnyl (CD11) + IUI on 2/20 (post wash count 12.5 million)= BFN
    IUI cancelled (DH OOT) Clomid 50mg (CD3-7) 1 follicle +(not well timed) TI = BFN
    IUI #8 and last one!! Clomid 100mg (CD3-7) +OPK before US + IUI 4/17 (post wash 8.5 mil)= BFN

    Pre-IVF testing complete! SHG great and measurements taken! Labs for infectious diseases completed, FSH (5.4), TSH (1.6), Prolactin (11), AMH (2.6), Estradiol (40).

    Started BCP 5/29 and Lupron 6/11 prep for IVF #1! Started follistim 225u/day on 6/28. Monitoring on 7/2 >15 follicles measuring 11-14, E2 758. Monitoring on 7/5 all ready to go!! Great follicle sizes and lining is at 9. Tigger 7/5, ER 7/7 16R 9M 3F. Stimmed too fast in just 7 days. 7/10 3dt of 2 8-cell grade 2 & 4. 7/14 P4 >60.
    Holy crap BFP!!!
    Beta #1 (14dpo) 7/21 112 Beta #2 (16dpo) 7/23 286 a Beta #3 (18dpo) 7/25 761 Beta #4 (21dpo) 2631!!! Hold on tight little embies!!      First Ultrasound 8/7- 1 perfect little bean with a beating heart 117bpm!! EDD 3/30.
    Second ultrasound 9/2 Little bean measuring a few days ahead with a heart rate of 161!

    Benched with cysts...
    IVF#2 beta moved up due to heavy bleeding 6dp5dt...beta was 11. beta#2 20.4! Beta#3 28 Chemical pregnancy :(
    Currently on BCPs with cysts, planning IVF#3 Everyone welcome!

    10/2013 - Initial consult. Started levothyroxine - tsh 2.92
    HSG- showed graying in one spot/Saline Sono- showed 5mm polyp
    DH SA -  abnormal -  36%motility on both SA's (count and morph ok on SA1, a little off SA2)
    1/10/14 - Hysteroscopy to remove 5mm polyp
    1/12/14- Medicated Cycle 1: 50mg Clomid + Ovidrel + TI = BFN
    2/15/14 - Medicated Cycle 2: 100mg Clomid + Ovidrel + TI = BFN
    3/18/14 - IUI Cycle 1: 150mg Clomid + Ovidrel + IUI = BFN
    Upped Levothyroxine to 50mg - tested at 2.62
    4/17/14 - IUI Cycle 2: 150mg Clomid + Ovidrel + IUI = BFN
    Break!
    6/21/14: IUI Cycle 3: 150mg Clomid + Ovidrel + IUI

    I'm so sorry :(. I had mine out a few years ago, and I was up and about 2 days later and back to work in a week, so hopefully you feel better soon!

    Married on October 20, 2012.  Began trying in January 2013.
    RE appointment & testing December 2013 - February 2014= Unexplained IF, possible endometriosis
    IUI#1- March 22 (100mg clomid, 75 mg of Bravelle, Ovidrel trigger) = BFP!!!

    I'm a little late to the game here but...So sorry to hear that this happened on your birthday!!  Just as a word of encouragement, as others have already given, I had mine out laproscopically in June of 2011 a week before my bridal shower.  I was told I would need 1-2 weeks off of work.  After about 3-4 days, I started to feel okay enough to go out of the house.  The second day post-op was the worst, but other than that it wasn't too bad.  I was able to go to my shower feeling mostly fine and I haven't had any major long-lasting side effects.  I know some people find that they can't eat certain foods after having their gallbladder out, but I have not noticed this. 

    Also, doctors can be so annoying with these things!  I think the super-hypochondriac people must ruin it for the rest of us, because often it's hard to get a doctor to believe you when you say you know something's wrong!  I literally thought I was having a heart attack after my last bad attack...so much pressure in between my shoulder blades (major sign of a heart attack in women, thank you, Dr. Google)...went to the doctor and the nurse practitioner told me that, yes, I had a couple of gallstones, but I should just try to avoid eating fatty foods and I should be fine.  I felt so judged...yes, I'm a bigger girl, but I eat a healthy, balanced diet and I still had attacks.  Plus, no one can live their life without ever eating fat...it's not only unrealistic but it's unhealthy!! When I finally DID have the surgery, the surgeon came out and told my husband that my gallbladder was infected and could have ruptured anytime!  Long story short, it's always good to trust your gut and be persistent when a doctor is shrugging something that's REAL to you off like it's nothing...if I hadn't gone to see the surgeon on my own it could have killed me.  Good for you for fighting for a better diagnosis!!

    @beekaboo43‌ our stories are quite similar, it was so much pressure, I've never been told before I had any gallbladder issues before this so it was a total shock I'm glad it's gone. I guess gall ladders are supposed to be blue and mine was angry red and yellow

    Oh no!  So sorry you are sick!  SIL had this done about a month ago, it wasn't a lot of fun but she feels MUCH better now that it's out.  Hope you're back on your feet feeling better soon!
