Ganirelix

I'm starting it tonight and then it becomes an AM injection. Any words of advice? Dr. Google tells me the needle is a bit dull.

  • Ganirelix is a pretty easy injection. It doesn't burn like Menopur, and there's no assembly process.

But yeah... it's not the best needle. I personally found it easier to insert into the thigh than into the stomach, although I was more likely to get a skin reaction on the thigh. For me, NO needle was as bad as the ones that came with my two-week Lupron kit. Seriously, it was like inserting a spork into my belly fat.

Overall, though, Ganirelix is really nothing to fret about :)

I thought it burned a LOT!!!! It took a moment to notice, then OW!!!! When I googled it, it seems like some people are bothered, some aren't. You could do the first run like a normal shot to see how you react. If it burns for you, try the ice trick.

    Good luck!

  • I guess we're cycle twins @ronniesgirl1981‌. I got the same instructions after my monitoring appointment today. The needle isn't so bad. It did burn a little to me but not as much as the Menopur.
  • gnl42gnl42 member
I thought the needle was definitely blunt compared to the gonal-f ones I had been using beforehand. I had some burning for up to a half hour after, but nothing too bad.

  • The needle does seem harder to get in then others so I do think the needle was duller.  I didn't have any burning.  And honestly, with the dull needle I only had an issue twice where it just bounced off my belly instead of puncturing the skin so all I had to do was try again and use more force.  As for once it goes in - not any harder or hurt any more than doing follistim or menopur.

  • Seriously - after ALL of the injects you've been through - this is nothing.  It actually just becomes a part of your routine.  Wake up, brush teeth, inject hormones into your stomach, eat breakfast.  You know - a natural part of your day! :D  Ganirelix just replaces your morning coffee.  Wasn't that nice of the RE to give you such an awesome substitution?

I had no ill effects and it was SOOOO nice not having to mix and change needles before work as I am usually already running late.

You are an inject pro - YOU GOT THIS girl!!!!

  • I did have a bit of a reaction to the Ganirelix the first 2 times I injected it but after I googled about it realized that it was very common. I had a little burning but mainly it was itchy and I got like a raised welt in the area where I injected it. It only lasted a few hours but it freaked me out at first.

After that it was easy peasy, although it did seem to be the dullest of the needles I had.

    Good luck! You'll be fine!

    All Welcome
  • I must have been an oddball.  I too thought the needle sucked, but I got so stinking sick from G.  I threw up within 2 hours of my first injection and took me about 2 days to readjust...

Best of luck, I hope I'm just weird and you'll have the luck of the other ladies here!

  • I remember (not that it was so long ago) that I had to push a little harder to get the needle in, but the plunger was much faster than my other needles which made for a super fast shot. Good luck!
