weekend away?

Hi ladies,

Have any of you taken, or plan to take, a trip without your LO?  DH and I are supposed to go to the beach 3 hours away for a weekend in May with friends.  I've committed to going but am still nervous.  Although DD takes formula and breastmilk, I nurse her whenever she wakes up in the MOTN. I'm worried she will be confused or just not satisfied with a bottle in the middle of the night. I'm just going to miss her so much but DH and I need this.  What have been your experiences?

Re: weekend away?

  • I should have mentioned DD will stay with DH's parents so I know she will be taken care of.

  • I don't have any experience, but I would try a bottle in the middle of the night between now and then to see how it goes. Maybe not try every night so you don't ruin what you have going, but slip one into the routine every so often.

Agree that it is far enough away that I wouldn't worry yet. Just keep getting her acclimated to the nighttime bottle, and she could very well be sleeping great by then. We first left DD1 overnight with my parents when she was almost 4 months for a wedding. I was SO stressed about it leading up to it...having enough milk, how would she sleep, etc. Of course all was well and it was much easier after that. I believe that babies know when mom is around and if she can nurse at night, of course she will want to, but if you are not there she may be just fine with a bottle. We actually have a weekend trip planned as well, but not till our anniversary in July. I'm a little concerned b/c LO doesn't take a bottle easily (whereas DD1 did) but it's far enough away that I'm not even going to think about it yet. We're just going to keep working on her drinking from a bottle till then and hopefully she'll be STTN.

  • I'm Sure it will be fine. Pp is right, she will be older and she may even be sleeping through the night (dare we hope for such things!!) It will be much more stress on you than her, so try to relax and enjoy it.

  • Thanks so much for the reassurance. There are nights that she'll only wake up once so by 5 months we should be good!
