Masculine?

My husband and I love the name Lincoln, especially for a girl. But googling it I've seen some NASTY comments from people about how masculine it is and how anyone that names a girl that is just mean. Thoughts? I guess because I knew a girl named Lincoln I didn't think too much of it! Be nice...lol With my 2 year old, I was in love with Addison but found out it literally meant Son of Adam and changed it to Addalyn.

Re: Masculine?

  • Lincoln is laughable and tacky on a girl. Yikes. You can do so much better!

  • Yeah, Lincoln is too masculine for a girl. Maybe something that sounds similar, like Lena?

  • I hate the name Lincoln, and I hate it even more on a girl. Please don't do that to a girl.
  • Lincoln is definitely masculine to me.

  • I would be just as surprised to see a cute little girl then find out her name was Lincoln, as I was finding out the cute little girl in DD's class is named Hunter. And I don't mean a pleasant surprise.

Also, I like Addalyn much better for a girl. I have a 20 something year old male cousin named Addison, and I just always thought it was such a weird name for a girl.

    YES! YES! YES!

To answer your question, it IS masculine.

  • Lincoln does sound masculine to me. While I would personally prefer a more feminine name, I don't think it's bad for a girl. I certainly wouldn't think you're mean for naming your daughter Lincoln. I just think most people would expect her to be male, given her name only.
  • I think Lincoln is okay for a boy but terrible for a girl.

  • Sorry, I've only known boys named Lincoln. And even then, NMS.

Are you serious??  At this rate there won't be boy and girl names...they'll all just be unisex because people keep using boy names on girls.  Ugh, really getting sick of boy names for girls.

  • Sounds like the name for a puppy. Not a child- esp a girl.
  • Sorry, I don't like it either.
  • I would side eye a girl named Lincoln so hard. Just like I side eyes the parents of the girl named Hunter I knew...and the girl named Tanner.

  • I like it and would do it if I thought I could ever convince H. But I like boy names for girls/gender neutral names. I think there are far worse names for a girl and if you both like it then do it! :)
