My husband and I love the name Lincoln, especially for a girl. But googling it I've seen some NASTY comments from people about how masculine it is and how anyone that names a girl that is just mean. Thoughts? I guess because I knew a girl named Lincoln I didn't think too much of it! Be nice...lol With my 2 year old, I was in love with Addison but found out it literally meant Son of Adam and changed it to Addalyn.
Re: Masculine?
1. We named him after the president. I don't like that the name has become trendy, not because I don't want my son to have a trendy name, but because it's clear people are using it without giving a crap about the president. Do you want to name your daughter Lincoln because it's after a strong historical figure and you don't want her sex to be a limitation? If so, I can kind of understand that, even if I don't like it as a girl name. If not, then FFS think about what the name means - not etymologically, but historically.
2. There are so many lovely girl names I will never get to use. I don't get why so many people blow their wad on boy names for girls.

Also, I like Addalyn much better for a girl. I have a 20 something year old male cousin named Addison, and I just always thought it was such a weird name for a girl.
I think Lincoln is okay for a boy but terrible for a girl.
