Baby Names

kenna

I want to honor my grandfather James Kenneth and my mother who is Vicki Leah. I can not find anything I like to honor them. I woke up this morning thinking Kenna. I don't like trendy though and am not sure if Kenna fits that category. Other LOs are Carys and Asher.

Re: kenna

  • I like it a lot.

  • Thanks, but I really don't like Kendra. All I can think of it that playboy bunny girl that has her own show.

  • argh! Naming is so hard this time! I either don't like it, it's popular, bad association, or crappy meaning.

  • No, if I did that, I'd use James as a mn. My mom keeps coming up with names with the  -leah sound on the end. Layla/Laila has been my front runner, but I just can't commit. Last night she suggested Laila Alia...really, mom?! I'm really liking Eden right now too!
  • That's what I was afraid of...the Mackenna, Kinley, Kinsley, wth?! That's the problem, nothing seems as good as Carys and Asher. My best friend said the same thing, it's much more difficult because of their names.
  • I like Kenna. What about Kenlee? Or Kenna James?
  • Thanks. Definitely NO Kenlee! I do not care for trendy/made up names. I like the flow of Kenna James, but think it may be too masculine sounding.

  • Knew someone named kenna ... Her mom choose her name out of a fictional book in 1983. Now she's a stripper. Name seems made up to me.

I've always thought Kenna was made up, or a shortened version of MaKenna. (McKenna?) Anyway, good luck!! It's so hard naming babies!
  • It isn't made up.
  • Does anyone have any suggestions on how to incorporate their names??
  • Maybe Victoria Kendall or Kendall Victoria?
  • I completely feel you on how challenging it is when your current children have amazing names. I just can't think of any name I live as much as Eleanor and Walter...well there are a couple but my husband already vetoed them. Anyway, good luck! What about Leah James?

  • Kenna is certainly not made up. https://www.behindthename.com/name/kenna

I do find it tons better than McKenna though since McKenna means son of Kenneth.

  • I know a Kenna in her 20s, so it doesn't seem too trendy to me. She is smart and successful, so it also isn't a stripper name to me. I quite like it.

Maybe Victoria Kendall or Kendall Victoria?
Yes, I like these takes on the family names.
Would definitely stay away from using James as a middle name for a girl...that is such a strong, man's name
  • Kendall can't be used and although I like Victoria, it's nms at all.
  • I think Kenna is a great option for you.
  • I like Kenna. I used to babysit for one and she is probably in the late teens/early 20s so it doesn't seem trendy at the moment to me. MacKenna/McKenna does. Good luck!
