Pink eye.

This looks pretty pink eye-ish, right?

I'm 95% sure DD has pink eye. She's only had it once before, ever.  She says it's itchy, like "there's a lash or dirt stuck in there" per her words.  It doesn't have pus yet, though I do see a little crusty like stuff every so often.  Last time she had a TON of puss when she had it, but it wasn't until the day after we noticed it was pink.  So might not be at that point.   I'm not a pink eye pro.    How taboo is it to give the antibiotic drops you have from last time (not expired until summer) to her, since it's early on a Saturday? And her doctor won't be available until Monday?  Would you give them?    Normally I'm SO against giving medicine for something that isn't diagnosed, but I'm almost certain this is pink eye.  And to go in Monday and have them say "she needs drops, it's pink eye" seems so silly, when I have 3/4 a bottle here at home.

Would you give? Or is that stupid to do?

  • I'm not going to lie, I'd probably give her the drops. Also, the pharmacist once told me rubbing some Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo on a warm cloth rag to clean the crust out works great. I did it when DD had pink eye and it worked awesome.

  • Looks like pink eye. May be the viral kind instead of bacterial if she doesn't have the gunk. Either way, I would give the drops. Our pediatrician won't even see kids for pink eye. If the eyes are pink they automatically call them in drops.

  • Thanks so much guys!  I ended up giving. Hate doing that.. but now it's in the other eye too, and she's got white gunk in the one that just got pink.

Seems silly to not treat when I have the same exact drops they would give me anyway, it's clearly pink eye now.  She's totally fine, though.  Out of ANY sickness, pink eye is the one I don't mind. It doesn't really bother or drag her down.  Just looks nasty.  Hopefully better soon!
