Actual Bullying

Not my school, thank goodness, but 45 min away is too close.

For those of you who love to sling the word bullying around, take a close look. This is what real bullying looks like: disgusting. And targets of bullying being called the distraction and the problem makes me sick.

Also, it's an excellent look into how not following expected gender ROLES can lead to backlash, confusion and some thinking the gender identity is different. It's just sad that kids just can't be kids.

Re: Actual Bullying

  • Yeah instead of leaving the backpack at home because it is a distraction, why don't they make the little shitheads that are making it a distraction stay home. Not impressed with the school's decision at all!

I feel like the school is also being a bully and making him leave the backpack at home like he is doing "somthing wrong" that the bullying is his fault. This is so wrong. My heart hurts reading this.

This! This is so sad to make him feel like he is in the wrong. And reassuring kids that if you don't like something about someone, bully them, and they will be forced to change. Thank goodness he has support at home. Poor kid. I really hope the school changes their decision.

The school is absolutely wrong here. Way to victimize the one being bullied (again) and support the bullies school...

    So freaking sad.

Lala, I love that Bronies link. :)
  • This makes me so sad.  I read a similar story not to long ago, but it is much worse.

  • My nephew is 2 and LOVES my little pony and pink. Anytime he something pink he flips out and yells "Blake want pink!!" He currently also loves tractors, dirt, and wrenches. If someone tried to make fun of him I would kick their ass. Seriously as a kinder teacher I love the idea of giving them all a pencil too.

  • Goodness this upsets me. This takes me back to the day after my daughter was born when I was bawling, not from happiness, but because I realized one day someone would hurt her feelings or bully her in some way. People are so horrible and insensitive. I look at that mom looking at her son and I feel for what she feels. It probably kills her to see so many people be so ugly to him.

I always try to think of how easy it is to be mean, but it's even easier to be nice to people.

I live about the same distance as you from Buncombe County probably less and to me it's not surprising they are "punishing" the wrong child. The area has a reputation for being pretty backwards and if they took bullying so seriously they would see what was happening for what it is. It's not the backpack that is a distraction it's the kids bullying another for something they have decided is girly. Hopefully the school looks into this more and discovers their error.
  • This hurts my heart. Its also bullshit maybe they should go to all middle, Jr high, and high schools and tell all the boys that they need to take thier seseme street, mickey mouse, and spongebob home and don't bring it back bc it would cause a distraction. I would raise hell if that was my child, its ridiculous that a 9 yr old is bullied for a damn backpack and a 15 is cool if he has fucking Elmo!
