Birthday card bomb?

I think that's what it's called when you contact a million people who know someone and ask them to send a card and memory or photo during the week of the persons birthday? I'm thinking we might do it for fils birthday. Anyone tried it or have any suggestions? There is no way we know everyone, but I was thinking to send a few extra notes in certain cards and ask them to send it on to someone we may have missed. Good idea? Bad? Tacky? Fil is going to be 80, but I know there won't be anything special planned and we won't be visiting. I thought this might be a fun surprise.

I did something similar with notes of advice for DD about becoming a big sister. She loved it, it was darling...we didn't get as many back as we had hoped. But it was during the holiday season, so I'm blaming it on that.

We did something similar when my Grandma turned 90. She ended up with just over 90 cards. She was very excited when they started coming in. This year she turned 93 and still received over 40 cards.

We did it for my grandma when she turned 90. My aunt borrowed her address book for a few days to "organize it" and my mom sent m grandma's friends a little card a few weeks before her birthday. It had a childhood photo with a poem about her birthday and sending her cards. She got over 100 cards.

We did it for my grandparents 50th anniversary and I plan to do it for my parents too.

I like birthday card shower better, thanks! I made up a postcard on vistaprint and we are gathering addresses now. I'm thinking to mail it out at the beginning of the month since his birthday is the third week. I'm excited to see how it goes!!
