SIL bought DD pierced earrings...

DD's ears are not pierced.

Huh?

As she was giving us the gift bag, her husband was saying, "I told her she should have asked you before she bought them..." So, we knew what it was before we even opened it, but DH and I had to say, "Thanks, they're beautiful. We're not piercing her ears until she's old enough to ask for it and take care of them though."

SIL said she thought the earrings were a good idea because *I* have my ears pierced. Interesting reasoning. I had mine done at age SIX.... Bizarre.

  • Hmm... weird.

Are they regular earrings or the kind with the screw backs?

  • My Aunt gave me earrings for my DD at my baby shower. They are her birthstone (ruby's).  She did this for my sister as well.  She was very clear that she did not expect us to get her ear's pierced but when we were ready she want her to have them.  I don't feel any pressure.

They're the regular post backs. I remember them stabbing my skull when I was sleeping as a kid and had to keep them in for a month (or whatever it is) after I first got them pierced. I can't imagine how that would feel for a baby.

And what's odd is that before DD was born, DH and I had considered getting them pierced early! The more I thought about it, incl. the skull-stabbing thing, and taking away her choice, we opted against it.

To the other PP though, we are indeed keeping the earrings for if/when DD wants to get her ears done. They're tiny diamond chips though, so by the time she's old enough to wear them, they make look out-of-scale...

Eh, I just still think it's odd!

  • Diamond earrings for your baby? I would call that thoughtful!

I agree- I never said it wasn't thoughtful, just odd since they won't be put to use, at least for several years. We did thank her/them profusely, regardless...
