First meeting

LO is finally meeting his older half-sister today. We live in MA, she lives in TX with her mother. She is 9. She refused to come meet him in November and I believe she is begrudgingly coming now and only because she'll get to see her cousin who is the same age as her.

I'm hopeful that we're going to have a great 4 days together, and trying to think of all the positive things that will be experienced. But, rightfully so, she misses her father and I'm sensing jealousy is very much present even through the many miles between MA and TX.

Any tips or advice?? I'm sure after this long weekend I will have some classic jems to share in the next "shit DH does or says."

I would say to have her father talk with her telling her how much he loves her and etc. She's probably dying for her fathers affection. Also I would just try to keep her very much involved in everything. Then there should be a day where maybe her and her father can go do some things alone and have some bonding time. Fingers crossed that it's going to be a nice visit.

I agree with the pp. And with that adorable little face, hopefully he will just melt her heart. She might have a hard time resisting him. Fingers crossed.

How about giving her a gift from DH and another one from baby (and maybe one from you). That will make her feel special. Yes, I'm that aunt that buys her way into children's hearts.

I bet once she is around your adorable baby and the ice is broken, she will be great. It's probably just new and awkward for her. She is also probably nervous and a little unsure. Just make it super fun, act excited, keep her involved, and make her feel at home. That sweet baby will do most of the work for you.

Well, so far so good. She was very excited to see him and sat in the chair beside his highchair at lunch. All things considered, it's the best first meeting I could have asked for!! Thanks for your suggestions!!
