Late birth story *ibliss*

I don't post very often but I have enjoyed reading and learning from all of you. Here is our birth story:

Short version: I had went in for my induction 2/20/14. Our little one was born at 4:46pm at 9 lbs 14 oz and 21 inches long.

Long version: I was 41 weeks exactly and we headed to the hospital on the morning of 2/20/14. Checked in and the doctor broke my water at 8 am and started a pictocin drip. We had taken a Hypnobirthing class and planned to have as few medical interventions as possible but were flexible.

Contractions started right away about 3 minutes apart. I had to labor in bed for the most part because of the IV hooked up. Around 10 I threw up (giving my husband moments notice to try and find a bag or garbage; he wasn't quick enough). As we cleaned up between contractions that had gotten pretty intense, I decided I wanted an epidural. We waited another hour or so and then let the nurse know. They were super quick getting the anesthesiologist in there and the epi was placed easily.

After that I continue to labor but more comfortably. My husband was great and stayed right by my side. In fact if I opened my eyes and he wasn't right in front of my face (because he was checking a monitor or getting water) I would start to freak out. Lol.

The doctor was supposed to check back in between 12 and 1 but he hadn't. The nurse check my at 1 and declared that I was at an 8! I was really excited that I had already progressed so far. They check again about an hour later and I was ready to push. They started looking for the doctor but couldn't reach him on his pager. The nurses were worried about it and assured me there was another doctor around just in case. I wasn't worried. I was too focused on the contractions and I figured whether the doctor was there or not, I was having this baby.

The nurse let me pushing for a little more than an hour on my side. She wanted me on my back but I was being stubborn. After a while I realized things weren't progressing and we needed to try things her way. I pushed for another 50 minutes on my back and at 4:46pm our angel made her arrival. 9 lbs 14 oz and 21 inches long with a big head. I did start to tear but then got an episiotomy so the tears were minimal and didn't require stitching

She was very quiet. They took her over to check her out and try to get her to cry. I kept asking if she was ok and breathing. They assured me she was but they wanted her to cry and she wasn't.

That night she got to stay with us in our room but in the morning they said her bilirubin levels were high and they wanted to put her under lights and start an IV for low blood sugar. Luckily, the nursery was right across the hall. She stayed 3 days there. The last day was because she was struggling to nurse. My milk wasn't quiet on and she was an impatient eater. But all turned out well and now we have been home and she is nursing great, even if she does keep us up all night.

Thanks for reading and now some pics. :)
