spotting

?Brown spotting... like pinkish brown... yesterday and today. ?Is this normal? It is freaking me out and my doc. is on vacation... I am debating on just going to the hospital and asking them to tell me everything is okay but I don't want to overreact. ?

Re: spotting

  • Are there no other OB's in the office or even a nurse you could talk to about it?  I'm not going to tell you not to worry, because that is always easier said than done especially when its your own body.
  • could be implantation bleeding, I had the same spotting for 3 days from 12-14dpo. it should go away soon.

  • Brown/pinkish spotting happens a lot and can be totally normal. Can you at least call your doctor's office and ask them what they think? Even if your doctor is on vacation, he/she should have someone filling in for him/her.

I wouldn't go to the ER unless it's severe or accompanied by cramping.

    the office is closed...?

  • Brown/pink spotting isn't unusual. I wouldn't go to the hospital unless you have lots of bright red bleeding with cramping. I bled alot during my first tri, its unnerving but not all that uncommon. On another note, you doc doesn't have a fill in or someone on call when he/she is away?

Wow...to be honest, that would make me really uneasy having that as my doctor's office. What happens if you go in labor and they're on vacation???

Good call, yeah you would think... she is in a big clinic with a smaller office of her own and they are closed till monday no other OBGYN's. The voice message says if it's an emergency call 911 or go to the hospital... ? I hate this.?

Me too. I would find a new ob/gyn if there is no one you can contact on a legitimate business day like today. I can't imagine what it would be like on weekends/holiday. I've been having spotting/bleeding the past week. My doctor even took me in on Christmas Eve for an emergency u/s.

I can't ease your fears on the spotting front because I know how scary it is. I had spotting a week ago that turned into full on bleeding and I'm still ok. I have a subchorionic hematoma that is causing it. But, spotting can be caused by a lot of completely normal things.

  • try not to overreact.

My sister told me that when she experienced spotting during her pregnancy they asked her to bring her pads as proof to the appointment.

If it's just a little bit I wouldn't worry too much, esp because it could be implantation spotting.  If you've had sex recently, that could also be a factor because your cervix is softening and more prone to little bleeds.

If it's more like the last day of your period, I wouldn't worry but if it's more like the start of your period, get it checked out.

  • Thanks ladies, I am going to try to wait it out and hope it quits. ?We recently moved to a new town so I had to get a new doc (this one) and looks like I may have to switch again... unfortunately. ?Thanks for the advice.
  • There really isn't anything the ER or your Dr. can do at 4 weeks (you won't be able to see anything on an u/s anyways).  I would put your feet up, drink lots of fluids, rest, and think positive thoughts.  The only thing the hospital can do is blood draws 48 hours apart to make sure your numbers are doubling.  An u/s around 6 weeks is going to be the best indication of the progress/viability of your pregnancy though.  I know it's hard, but if I were you (and I have been through more spotting/bleeding episodes with former pregnancies than anyone should have to go through so I am experienced to say the least), I would try to wait it out and see what happens, at least over the weekend.  Good luck!  I will be thinking of you!
  • Could be implantation bleeding since you are so early and it isn't bright red.  But maybe call your dr. if you are concerned.

Thanks so much for asking this question.  I have had the same type of bleeding the past two days and it's light.
