Sleeping Issues

Unfortunately next week I have to return to work and my 6 week old will start in child care.  She has slept in her crib fairly well up until this point, some times being placed in her crib asleep, other times being placed in her crib close to nodding off.  From the beginning we swaddled her using a product called SwaddleMe, however at the child care center she is attending she must be placed in a Sleep Sack with her arms out.  We have bought the new Sleep Sacks and decided to get her prepared for next week by using these Sleep Sacks at home throughout this week.  Unfortunately the last few nights have not gone well.  She wakes up more often and has trouble getting herself back to sleep.  She also has not been napping well during the day.  I am not sure if these issues are related to the change in being swaddled...or some other issue.  Any suggestions?

Re: Sleeping Issues

  • You could try using some essential oils. Something for relaxation, for example lavender has great soothing properties as well as ylang ylang is great too.
  • I would keep using the SwaddleMe at night and use sleep sacks only during naps. That way LO gets some good rest at night at least. Plus, you'll probably want to keep using the swaddles at night until she grows out of it.

It's possible your LO could be going through the 6 week growth spurt a little early. But to me it sounds like its a problem with the swaddle. Just keep at it during naps for this week. It takes awhile for a baby that young to adjust, and she might not adjust to that until she grows out of the startle reflex.

Agree that daycare really wears my LO out so he sleeps great at night on a regular basis.
