First day of daycare

Just curious as to how everyone's LOs were when you brought them home from daycare the first day. My expectations of a glowing happy baby ready to cuddle and play have been sadly disappointed. :-( E is not a happy camper and being super fussy at the breast. Please tell me this gets better, I want my happy girl back!

The first few weeks were definitely an adjustment. G has been in daycare for almost two months. Now for the most part I get smiles when I pick him up. When we get home he's usually ready to eat. Then he naps for an hour or so, then we play until bedtime. I definitely hold him during his evening nap because I'm usually in need of the cuddles. I'm sure I'll get him to nap on his own sometime before he goes off to college lol.

    Edited because words are hard.

  • This is LO's 4th week with the babysitter and she is fussy most days when I pick her up. She is only there a few days a week so I feel like it is taking her a bit longer to adjust. She's really fighting naps, so when I pick her up at 5:30 we go home, she eats immediately, and she is in bed by 7pm. I hate that she comes home so tired but I just think she's not used to that much action still. Hoping after a few more weeks of being there she'll be adjusted and a little less fussy/tired when I pick her up.

Good luck, hopefully it doesn't take as long for your LO!
  • Today was our first day too. LO doesnt seem that much different from her typical self. I wasnt sure if she was going to be extra clingy or maybe looking miserable from missing me all day. I even thought she might seem hungrier as she didnt take all the bottles I sent, but so far, all is the same thankfully.

  • Mia went to daycare when she was 6 weeks old because I had to go back to work, so I think that had something to do with her not having a reaction.  I'm sure she'll get used to it.  Maybe she was up a lot and didn't nap super well because of the new/exciting environment.
  • DD acted just like she would have if she didn't go to day care that day. Like PP said though, it stinks in general in the evening at our house since this is her normal cranky time (witching hour?). I hate that I only get a few hours a day with her and she's cranky.

@Sing2phins I noticed that E slept her longest stretch ever last night, she was so pooped!

    Edit: posted too early
  • Today is LO's second day at daycare. I was the same way as you,OP, expecting her to be all smiles and so eager to play with me after I got home last night, but she wasn't! Boo!

She did sleep her longest stretch ever last night- 7.5 hours! So I'm hoping that lasts and I'm finally going to get some sleep.

There aren't enough hours in the day.
