Stroller winter blanket

DH and I live in sunny SoCal, but ILs live in snowy Wisconsin. We are traveling there at the end of March (LO will be 12 weeks). We visit every Christmas too.

My question is about stroller blankets/car seat winter covers. I'm looking at getting the JJ Cole Urban Bundle Me https://www.amazon.com/JJ-Cole-Bundleme-Stealth-Infant/dp/B000G7YO5E/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=GFGII02CC0EN&coliid=I2NDNY46F44377

It comes in two sizes, infant and toddler. If we are using it at 12 weeks, and not again until probably 10 or 11 months, would you get the infant size or the toddler size? Does anyone use this cover or have recommendations about winterizing baby?

Thanks for the advice. I thought I moved to California to avoid this kind of stuff.... :)

Re: Stroller winter blanket

  • Did you check out the questions there on amazon?  I recently discovered this feature on some products and it's genius!  I see for this one specifically there are questions about this... It sounds like it's more specific to the stroller size instead of the kid, which makes sense!

We have this: https://www.amazon.com/JJ-Cole-Seat-Cover-Khaki/dp/B003ZUXQXU/ref=sr_1_3?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1393783789&sr=1-3&keywords=jj+cole+stroller+cover which just comes in one size and then also use a blanket in the seat with him.  This is probably something you're all over, but don't forget a warm hat that covers the ears :)

I'm also incredibly jealous that you live in a place where you don't have to worry about that.  Every time we leave the house I'm thinking "How frigid is it today?  Is it Aden blanket cold or super fuzzy blanket cold?"  I'm not convinced it'll ever be warm enough to take the damn cover off the car seat.    :-<

  • I think the JJ Cole bundleme is not recommended for carseat use similar to the reason why you shouldn't use snowsuits or heavy jackets on babies in carseats.

I live in Massachusetts and we've been using the Jolly Jumper carseat which doesn't affect the safety of the carseat harness.

This won't work in a stroller unless you are using the carseat in the stroller.

You shouldn't use any cover with a car seat that has a piece that goes under the baby. We have the JJ Cole Car seat cover and it works fine. We live in the Northeast, so we never leave home without it. When it is super cold outside, I also put a blanket around DD's legs under the cover.

  • I agree with the PP that it's not safe for use in a car seat. I have this and it's great https://www.etsy.com/listing/84468179/pink-nuzzler-infant-car-seat-cover-warm?ref=shop_home_active

  • I live in Ontario, it's been in the -20F range for most of the winter.  We put a hat on DS2, then fold a receiving blanket in four and put it over his legs and stomach over top of the straps.  We then use a heavy "Koala" blanket from BRU and throw that over the car seat, under the handle and over the hood.  This way we can still put the handle down when we put it into the car. No special purchases required, we just use the blankets we already have.

  • I'm in Chicago and also use the JJ Cole car seat cover with a blanket over DD's legs. Don't have a problem moving the handle with it.

  • I'm in Msnitoba, where we've been having one of the coldest winters on record... I'be been putting a sweater on DD, strap her in to her seat , then a blanket over top, and the JJ Cole car seat cover. Seems to be doing the trick! My only complaint us that the car seat cover flips open in the wind. I think I'm going to put a little piece of Velcro to help hold it shut.

Great idea!  I've thought about this too since it's been brutal wind chills but with Dr appts sometimes staying home isn't an option.

  • This is all really helpful. Thanks especially for the tip about the bundleme not being safe under baby. I feel like a crazy person leaving sunny and 70 for central Wisconsin, but we do love our ILs!

  • I live in WI. I use a blanket over his body and then a shower cap style car seat cover. It works great with the handle. Don't do the bundle me. It's not recommend.
