Hi ladies. Can I please put in a T&P request today? I have asthma that has been well controlled up until now. The past few days I have noticed that my breathing is very heavy and strained. I'm currently laying down because walking down the stairs totally took my breath away. These bouts of strained breathing are accompanied by my heart racing and sweats (despite it being freezing in my house), which really worries me. I know that shortness of breath and hot flashes can be very normal pregnancy symptoms, but I'm still freaking out that baby isn't getting enough oxygen. If I can't breathe, she can't breathe.
I called my MFM who is having me come in at 12:30 today. He says that my symptoms are not consistent with my history and he is concerned. He also said it could be totally normal, but there's no way of telling that over the phone. Please keep Anabelle in your thoughts today.
Wasn't I just saying that my pregnancy was finally feeling normal?!?!
Update: Baby is good, but this mama got herself a referral to a cardiologist. He is putting me back on my Advair inhaler, but said that my lungs sound perfectly clear so its not making sense why I had an attack this morning and why I'm struggling to breathe. Given my age (25), it is unlikely that something is wrong with my heart, but he wants it checked out to rule it out for sure. He's hoping the Advair does the trick and I start feeling better over the weekend.
Thank you for your support ladies! I know I've been a bit of an AW this week, so I really appreciate you sticking by me and helping me through this.

I have intrinsic asthma since I was very little. It get worse with any hormonal changes, the week before my period and - of course - being pregnant. My OB said that there is no problem on taking the Ventolin during pregnancy. It is much worse if you don't breath appropriately because the baby will be affected too. Just consult your doctor and don't be worried to use it. I used with my first pregnancy and this one. My son was born healthy
Also my OB says that it is very common for the asthma to worsen while pregnant, since all the organs are being pushed around in order to make space for the baby Good luck!
I don't have a hx of asthma, however I did start getting short of breath easier around then. My dr said it was from the increase of circulation and the pressure that was building up inside of me with the uterus getting bigger. Lots of T&ps for a good appointment! Keep us updated!
I have asthma also and as soon as we found out I was pg, my pulmunologist put me on monthly appointments to closely monitor me with instructions to call if I had any asthma attacks. It is very common for asthma to flare during pg.
Do you have a regular doctor you see for your asthma and are you currently using a daily inhaler? We found a few different ones that he felt were safe during pg.
Thanks @voplo! My OB and MFM said a lot of the same things. I used my inhaler this morning, which didn't help. That's when I got worried. The heart racing part is also new and concerned me. I'm not sure what that's all about. Thanks for your advice!

Thanks for input @buggirl72!! I was seeing the MFM monthly for the asthma because I moved right before I got pregnant and don't have an established pulmunologist here. At my last appt, 3 weeks ago, I was doing so well and hadn't had any asthma flare ups that he stretched out my next appointment for 6 weeks instead of 4 weeks.
I stopped my daily inhaler when I found out that I was pregnant and my MFM said it was ok because I was actually doing fine without it. He did put me on heartburn and allergy meds which are my asthma triggers, in hopes that controlling the triggers would prevent an asthma flare up. But it may be time to go back on the daily inhaler.

(((((Hugs))))) FWIW I hope it is just normal pregnancy crap. The heart racing and shortness of breath happens to a lot of us and it can feel like an asthma attack.

Asthma is so scary and asthma while pregnant is just terrifying, particularly if outside the realm of what it normally looks like/feels like for you. Fingers crossed that it still is just "normal." I'm glad they are getting you in. Big ((hugs)))
Thanks ladies! I think those memories of passing out from asthma attacks and being rushed to the hospital as a kid, just don't go away and scar you for life, but baby is good. I updated my OP.

My asthma is worse with pg too. Well it really isn't my asthma but more that I am short of breath just because I need more oxygen for the baby. Fx everything is fine for you.
I am glad you went to your doctor and got the referral. Better to be safe than sorry. I also have asthma, but ithas been pretty controlled with my as needed inhaler. Sending you T&Ps!
