Trouble TTC

Finally a Plan!!!!

So my new insurance kicked in the beginning of the year which means I actually get to see a RE. DH's counts are all great, my labs look good, my uterus and ovaries all look fine... now we just have to figure out why I am not ovulating. Next step is an HSG on Wednesday (not looking forward to it really... anyone have one? And if so, please tell me it's not too bad!) and then we are going to try letrozole and whatever the injection to trigger med is for 3 months before we re-evaluate. They wanted to do Clomid again- but with the issues I had with my vision, i told them no!

I am really hoping something works... EVERYONE around me is getting pregnant and it's getting really hard to deal with. *fingers crossed*

Re: Finally a Plan!!!!

  • Quick question, they started you on Clomid with out having an HSG done? HSG is more awkward then anything. If your tubes are clear you wont feel a thing. But if they are blocked it will hurt a little. Good luck, always feels good to have a new plan with a new doctor.
  • My tubes were clear and it still hurt! It was only uncomfortable, and then she shot the dye and the pain was shocking, but quick. Just a matter of seconds and then it was over and I done and didn't really have and residual pain.

  • The hsg was uncomfortable, but not painful for me. I took ibuprofen ahead of time which I think helped. In my case, definitely didn't need anything stronger. Bring a pad with you. You will need one and the hospital pads are bulky! I know some people are in a lot of pain after if they have blocked tubes or something, but I was able to go shopping and hit the gym later that day. Good luck!

  • My HSG was fine.  I took Tylenol beforehand (if you're on meds they might advise against Advil - mine did anyway).  It felt like an IUI, pretty much.  It sort of sucked leading up to it though because I had it done at a surgery center and they gave me a wrist band with my name and DOB which freaked me out.  Then they said they'd do the HSG in an operating room (!!!!) but it was no big deal once I was settled on the table and had my catheter in place.  Worst part for me was the nurse who was rough with the speculum.

Anyway, you may feel some cramps but from my understanding the truly terrible experiences aren't very common so try not to worry too much :) And even if it's bad, it's quick.  Plus it's pretty cool to see your ute and tubes on the screen.  Not an opportunity you'll have very often!

  • As far as the HSG goes prepare for the worst and hope for the best.  You'll get 1/2 people saying it was awful and 1/2 say no big deal.  For me my tubes were not blocked and the pain was god awful.  I went in there expecting the worst and it was worse than that.  I have heard that the painful ones are when they use a balloon catheter (who knows if that is true).  Others say it feels like a pap or an IUI.  For me I just bit my lip and let him do what he needed to do.  The whole thing was over before you could sing Happy Birthday to somebody.  Also, yes make sure you have a pad.  I was really crampy all night, I actually had to sit in the waiting room about 5 minutes before I walked to my car.  A hot bath helped a lot.  Hopefully you are like the other ladies though.  I dont mean to scare you just want you to be prepared.
    Ba hahahaha!

This. If you have been on Clomid already, I pray that means that you are currently doing a repeat HSG, and not your first one.

What a complete waste of time, and exposure to danger, if you did Clomid and your tubes happen to be blocked. I also hope that your Clomid cycles were monitored by U/S and bloodwork.

Good luck on this most recent HSG and I hope your tubes show they are clear.

  • I can agree with the statement @hope2bmom83 said! The balloon catheter was awful! I went in there thinking it would be nothing but the pain was almost unbearable! As soon as the catheter was removed, the pain subsided and I was able to go back to work. I took a Tylenol beforehand and that did absolutely nothing!
