If your house was burning down, what three objects would you try and save? 

1) the folk art piece we bought on our honeymoon.

2) my husband's rare books

3) the oriental rug in my living room that belonged to my grandmother and two aunts

2) Christmas ornament my grandfather made for me

3) My ID because it will be a pain in the ass to get anything done without it.

As long as me, my husband and dog are out safely I could really care less about the stuff that fills my home - all of it could easily be replaced.  I have a fire-safe box with all of most important things that I could easily recover after the fire.  The only things I cannot replace are my grandmother's antiques but they can't be easily grabbed, so that's not an option.  OOOh, my grandmother's ring, I might grab that if I have the time.

Assuming pets are out and ok...old family albums that belonged to my grandmother, laptop, and my injects/IVF meds b/c that shiz is expensive.

These kind of questions remind me that I need to save important pictures to a CD or flash drive, to keep in our fire-proof / water-proof safe, for this reason.

Assuming our dogs are already safe (they're #1)
1.) my purse/ his wallet. I can't imagine the head ache it would be to get new IDs/debit cards etc.
2.) our cars- they're in the garage so technically we'd have to remove them.
3.) photo albums (our baby albums, wedding, etc) I have most of our baby pics backed up online and I could always order a new wedding album from our photographer, but our couture album was $800!

Assuming my pup was out safe:

1) Our important documents box.

2) Pearls my great--grandmother gave me.

3) My computer (it has all our pictures saved on it).

1) my dog, although I consider her one of us so I'm not sure if she counts. Because in that case, I'd grab my DH too... Hehehe

2) my cell phone... It's essentially attached to my hand so shouldn't be a problem

When I was away at College, my family house burned down. It happened around midnight but luckily my sister was awake and everyone made it out. Sadly we lost our dog because in the panic of getting everyone out they didn't realize the dog was still in the house until everyone was at the hospital. My whole family was admitted with the exception of my youngest sister because my other sister got her out first. And my sister who saved everyone spent a week in the hospital but fully recovered! We lost all of our stuff but I wouldn't want any of it if it meant one of my family members had to further risk their life to get it.

That being said, I really wish we had a fire proof safe because we have no pictures from childhood or any of the other sentimental stuff you accumulate through the years!

1) My cats. . . this is non-negotiable. We even have 'save our pet stickers' in our windows so the fire fighters know.

If my cats were OK than my laptop.

I'm going to assume my dog would run out of the house when I opened the door because he tries really hard to escape any other time.

Otherwise
1. Would be a cross stitch piece my mom did of Oak Alley. It took her a yr to finish it and it was her prize possession and my brother caused a huge scene when she died because I got it.

2. I have an armoire full of pics of my boys when they were babies if grab as many as I could.

3. I have a desktop computer that I only use for pics so if grab that too.

I really need to put my pictures in an online storage and put important stuff in the fire proof safe.

i have three dogs, so its kind of cheating if i use them as one.

2) my wedding album (assuming my husband is already out) we spent a TON on it. 

3) my skunk photo, on the last day i had them before their release. its so sentimental to me bc i had stamped their paw prints onto the matte. and that was my final moments with them . . *tear*

I have a sudden mental image of someone dragging an armoire down the stairs in a fire. Thank you for that.
