NTTGPR: T&P needed for my sweet Kali (cat) UPDATED

MrsP924MrsP924 member
edited February 2014 in Trying to Get Pregnant
Our cat who is 10 years old has been diabetic for a year now. She's only had one other episode where her sugar was low and we had to force her to have some karo syrup to get her levels back up. This evening she had another episode started walk on like she was all drunk. Would not eat so we could give her the insulin shot. We gave her karo syrup again this time and called the vet. They said she should be fine. Well we had previous plans to go out for a friends bday so we went out to let her be and try not to stress about it. 3 hours later she is still acting drunk and lethargic. She didn't eat any of her food when we were gone. So now my DH is bringing her to the emergency clinic at the vet while I stay home with the puppy. I am freaking out! She's my baby and I just want her to be ok. Please keep your fingers crossed she's ok for us. I could really use it right now.

oh no I am sorry.  I hope it is still just low and is easy to get her stabilized.

What diet do you have her on?  How much does she weigh? has she lost some?

*some* cats revert and are no longer diabetics.  I am hoping that is why this happened for your sweet girl

Thank you. She is on a low protein diet. Gets insulin shot twice a day. The worst part of this is she was just at the vet yesterday for a check up bc they had to up her insulin and said she was good and this new level was working. She's at a good weight. Vet had said yesterday that she could lose a half a pound but that isn't very alarming to her health. I will keep everyone posted. Thank you everyone!

Oh no! Keeping your kitty in my thoughts and prayers!

One of our cats is/was diabetic. He's one of those that went into "remission" after 6 months on insulin and a switch to an all-wet food diet, specifically Fancy Feast - Classic variety flavors (lowest in sugar/carbs, aside from pricier brands, per our vet). We had to take him in about once a month at specific times after an insulin shot to monitor his blood glucose levels, and it was at those over time that we realized he was needing less and less insulin. I'm glad you thought to try karo syrup, did you rub it on her gums? That's a good way for quick absorption.

All this to say, I hope that your kitty is feeling better in no time, and that you can get some clarity from your vet. Keep us updated!

Thank you again everyone for all the support! You ladies are really the best. This morning we are dropping Kali off for an all day glucose curve to really determine what's going on. So we will know soon if she needs a much lower dose or if she's in remission.

Edit: ok why are the pictures upside down?! Stupid mobile!

Kali is doing good they had us come get her last night at 845 they wanted to collect more data. Dr says they want us to still give her insulin 2 times a day but a much lower dose. She shows good promise of going into remission some day.

Thank you again everyone for all the support!
