Baby Names

c/s scheduled for Wednesday and no girl's name

I'm having a very early c/s at 34 1/2 wks - just got put on schedule today. I sent my husband a list of names and the only one he liked was the one he suggested: Eleanor. To me it is a very hard and harsh name, and as I already have 2 boys, it would be nice to have something softer. We'd probably nickname her Elle or Eli when she is little if we did name her Eleanor, but I feel like I am finally having a girl - I should choose a name I love...yet I'm struggling to find one!
Here are some I might still fight for, but I'd love other suggestions!!!!
Aurelia (my favorite girl's name as a child - you know, when you think about what you are going to name your child when you are still a child?)

Chloe

Claire

Emma

Hannah

Leah (pronounced Lay-ah (Leia) - but my husband vetoed b/c of Princess Leia, argh!)

Maya

Mila (Meelah)

Mira (Meerah)

Sabine (Sahbeen)

Sophie (I love but I know, very overused)

Re: c/s scheduled for Wednesday and no girl's name

  • Thank you for your input.
Aurelia - I will keep Aurelia on my list since it has been in my head for so long!
    Chloe - Think I'll keep
Clara - I did have Clara on my list - but with parent names Clay and Sarah, it is kinda funny...
Mira - I love all of the meanings of the name, so maybe I will fight for it :).
Sabine - I like it too - especially if you have a good French accent :) will keep it.
    Sophie - Keeping it,.
    Your additional suggestions

Freya - I actually had this on my list and he likes it, but then worries he'll stop liking it when he stops liking "The Sword" (a band)

Lyra - Interesting option - I don't know any Lyras...

I'm not so into the other suggestions - they are too angelesque to me somehow. I did consider adding Vivienne and Suvi to my list though.

  • Aurelia and Mira are pretty.

I think Sabine sounds much more harsh than Eleanor.

Emma and Sophie are so overused.

The rest are boring to me.

Aurelia: Very pretty, and unique but not weird. I like it!

Chloe: NMS, it's too sugary sounding.

Claire: Simple, but pretty. Maybe a MN for Aurelia?

Emma: Too overused. You have much better options.

Hannah: Boring compared to your other options.

Leah: If you spell it this way, no one will pronounce it Leia. And since your hubby said no, it shouldn't be considered.

    Maya: NMS

Mila: Prefer the pronunciation my-lah, but it's ok.

    Mira: Love, love, love!

Sabine: Definitely harsher than Eleanor. It's a no for me.

    Sophie: Same as Emma.

I also like Freya and Lyra. Clara is ok too.

My top three votes would be Mira, Aurelia, and Lyra.

    Other suggestions:

    Colette

    Marcella

    Juliet

    Keira

    Violet

    Luna

    Willa

    Britta

    Ivy

    Zara

    Stella

    Carys

    Anastasia

    Nola

    Esme

    Gemma

    Evangeline

    Sylvia

    Evelyn

    Annabelle

    Aurora

    Julianna
    Beatrix

  • I'm the minority but Mila is my fav, love the Luna suggestion!
  • Honestly, I like your H's pick the best. Eleanor is beautiful and classic. I like Aurelia, but it's NMS.

Since this is your H's daughter too, he should love the name as well. You should agree on something you both like.

    Suggestions:
    Margaret
    Victoria
    Catherine
    Helena
    Fiona
    Samantha
    Lilypie - (KNqh)
  • I actually like Eleanor best and don't find it harsh at all.  Of your list I like Mira best, but I prefer spelling it Meara.

I like Eleanor. Or maybe Norah?

From your list I love Mila and Claire.

Leah pronounced like Lay-uh is going to be confusing for life.

    Adding suggestion:
    Alice
    Vera
    Stella
    Dahlia
    Celine
    Simone

  • I may be in the minority, but I agree with you about Eleanor. I don't really care for it. I do love Nora, though!

Aurelia: I've never been a fan of this name, sorry.

    Chloe: Really like!

    Claire: Really like!

Emma: Like, but too popular for me.

    Hannah: Classic and pretty!

Leah (pronounced Lay-ah (Leia): I love Leah pronounced Lee-uh, but pronounced like Leia, it's just too confusing.

    Maya: Beautiful.

    Mila (Meelah): Pretty

    Mira (Meerah): Pretty

    Sabine (Sahbeen): Nice

Sophie (I love but I know, very overused): I prefer Sophia, Sophie seems incomplete to me.

  • Freya is my fave from your list but I also adore Eleanor. Ps. IMO, using Leah but prning Leia will lead to a lifetime of mispronunciation.

  • I like Claire, Chloe, and Sabine. DS2 has a little Sabine in his class, very pretty and uncommon.

  • From your list I love: Claire, Eleanor, Emma, Hannah, Maya, Mila, Sophie
If I had to pick a favourite it would be Sophie, but I am biased as I have a Sophie. Also, I evidently am not too bothered by popularity. My next choice would probably be Claire or Eleanor.

    Other suggestions (sorry for repeats):
    Alice
    Annabel
    Eloise

  • Thank you all for all your suggestions. The reason I'm not giving into my husband this time around is that he pushed and won on our 2nd son's name even though I was crying about it on the way home from the hospital - and so he said, you get to pick the girl's name (thinking we would not have any more kids). Well now we are, and after 5 weeks on bedrest at the hospital and a major surgery planned (they are putting me under) I'm thinking I should love the name. But obviously he needs to like it too.

Okay, I will remove Leah/Leia from the list :). And unfortunately I think Mira has to go too as it doesn't really sound great with our last name.

    I will add
    Charlotte
    Laila
    Lyra
    Mia
    Julia
    Suvi
    Vivienne

We already have a Cole so no Colette (our 1st son) and I LOVE Simone but he nixed it immediately.
  • I like Julia and Charlotte. Or what about Juliet, Victoria, Cora, Evangeline.
