Harrington Rod, 25 weeks pregnant, and back pain

Hi! I have been having on and off back pain in my back. Sometimes there are days where I have it in the lower, middle closer to the spine, and etc. I have a hard time sitting on the couch for a long time too. I had a spinal fusion when I was 12 years old and have a harrington rod in my spine. I heard that the baby and uterus take space so that is why I am getting pressure on my spine. What should I do? This is not as easy as I thought even though I am so excited about the baby girl coming in early June.

Re: Harrington Rod, 25 weeks pregnant, and back pain

  • I am almost 23 weeks pregnant and have had back pain on and off for the past few weeks.  I have a herniated disc in my lower back so the extra weight is bothering my back.  Usually my back pain is in the middle of my back not my lower back.

I got a brace that goes below my belly and has straps around my chest.  Does help.  I am a teacher so on my feet on and off all day.  It is so sore sometimes sitting or standing. My hour commuter is the worst in the car!!

My Dr told me to get a massage which I hope to do next month just can't right now.  Hot shower helps on my back resting as much as I can.  Heating pad on my back.
I try to stay away from the Tylenol as much as I can.

I am just hoping my lower back does not go out, when it does I can't walk for a week and usually need muscle relaxers and other meds which I will not take pregnant.

Not sure if I helped but good luck. I feel your pain.
