Fetal DNA Testing?

I went in for my first blood work appointment this morning and was thrilled to find out that they could tell me the gender of my baby in a week by fetal DNA testing through a blood sample. I thought I would have to wait until my 20 week ultrasound! Has anyone else found out this way? Is it pretty accurate?

Re: Fetal DNA Testing?

  • Sounds like the Materniti21 or Harmony test. From what my doctor told me, they are 99% accurate.

It will be offered to me covered by insurance because of my age and high risk factors.

  • The person who did my blood draw last week mentioned having this done and to bring it up with the OB. I guess the company that has the Harmony test is trying to push for it to be done for every pregnant woman, not just AMA or high risk. My insurance covers it, so I am hoping to have it done when I am far enough along.

  • I spoke with my insurance company today and the doc has to submit a pre certification to try to get the harmony covered as it typically isn't

  • @cnharbison - my ob office said $800 but if you call lab core when you get the bill and do self pay they'll typically come down to $600
