Skier Bode Miller's Family Tree

Any of you watch the interview with Bode Miller for the Olympics?  He got a medal but became a bit emotional about his brother who passed away last year.  

After that I was interested in the names of the Miller family... 

Spouse: Morgan Miller

Brother: Nathaniel Kinsman Ever Chelone Skan Miller (nn Chelone)

Sisters:  Kyla Miller, Genesis Wren Miller (nn Genny or Wren)

Daughter:  Neesyn Dacey (nn Dacey or Dace)

Son: Samuel Bode Miller-McKenna (nn Nathaniel)

Parents: Jo Kenney, Woody Miller

Children's Mothers: Chanel Johnson, Sara McKenna

Just a note, Bode is actually his middle name, Samuel is his first name, so his parents got much more adventurous after he was named.  Either way,  that was a lot of name on his poor brother.

I think that his son's nickname is a bit bizarre.  He married his wife 5 months after dating her, while he was expecting a baby with another woman who he was not in a serious relationship with.  His son was born last February- name is Samuel Bode Miller McKenna.  Thought it was nice of the mother of the child to put his name in their son's name. Then Bode's brother, Nate, passes away in April (2 months after son was born)...so he starts calling his son Nate.  The mother of the child calls him Sam. I would not be on board with this if I was the mother of baby Sam!

I read that they picked Chelone after a wildflower that his mom picked during her pregnancy. And Skan is Lakota for the spirit of the universe. Sad story about his death, and even more upsetting to see Bode pushed like that by the interviewer. VERY strange about the naming of the little guy--poor kid won't know his name!

They have a bizarre custody battle going on too. He is claiming she isn't fit to raise the child because she's finishing her undergrad. While his wife lost a child and then suddenly they were fighting for custody (and got it temporarily). Poor little baby.

Well they of course showed a "feel-good" piece last night showing the new wife kissing the baby and they're all sledding....but I don't know who has actual custody. A Google search revealed it's quite a back-and-forth mess: 

"Like any bitter custody battle, whom and what to believe is a he-said/she-said better left for legal interpretation. The only problem was that in this case, even the courts seemed confused. Three months after Samuel was born, a New York court scolded McKenna for her cross-country move, pinballing jurisdiction back to California, where a court granted Miller custody. That decision enraged women's-rights advocates, who argued that a woman should not be penalized for moving with her unborn child. In November a New York appellate court reversed the California decision, giving primary custody back to McKenna. So now Samuel -- whom the Millers call Nathaniel in a tribute to Bode's younger brother, who died of a seizure last April -- lives with his mom. But when Miller gets back from Sochi, he and McKenna will share custody for a while as part of a short-term parenting agreement."

I totally agree that he was pushed too far by the interviewer.  Thanks for the extra info, pretty interesting.
