H and I can't agree on anything for #1

edited February 2014 in Baby Names
I'm still early in my pregnancy (about 7-8 weeks) but H and I have been having this debate since long before we were even ready to have kids. We aren't going to decide on anything now since it's so early, but it's good food for thought since I think it will take us a long time to decide on something anyway. Also, for a girl the mn will be Rose (family name).

Our "agreed" names ( I guess we can agree on a few things, but not on the favorites)
Girl: Anastacia (Ana/Anna), Katelynn (Kate/Katie)
Boy: Benjamin (Ben), Hunter

My favorites
Girl: Anna, Charlotte (love, but way too common), Alexandra (Ali or Lexi), Camdyn/Camden (Cam, Cami), Jordyn/Jordan, Taylor, Madelynn, Alexis (Lexi)
Boy: Grant, Elias (Eli), Ryan, Adam, Bennett

H's favorites
Girl: Brooklyn
Boy: Christian

Any suggestion based on our styles?

Edit: spelling

  • A lot of your names are not going to get love on this board. It seems like you like pretty common, fairly trendy names that are longer and can have nicknames. From your list I like Anna, Grant, Elias, and Adam.  That is it.  Here are some suggestions..

I really like all of these. H and I agree on Natalie/Natalia but I can't picture it for our child necessarily. I think Nattie or Talia would be cute nn.

    This.

These are our top choices right now actually, I think. We haven't really decided on a spelling for Anastasia, but I'm open to either. I just worry that Ben will be too common and don't want my son referred to as "Ben B" all of his schooling.

Woah, what happened with spelling? Alexandra is lovely, Anastasia is lovely (Anastacia is wrong), Madeleine/Madeline is lovely (Madelynn is wrong, even if it includes your mn), and Benjamin is good.

None of the spellings are written in stone at all, we haven't even really discussed that much yet.

Why do you need to decide on a spelling? Anastasia is how it is spelled. In a formal piece of writing, do you consider spelling "said" as "sed"? This is your child's formal name, not an exercise in creativity.

Actually, Anastacia is another recognized spelling. The spelling Anastacia is of Spanish descent and Anastasia is of Greek descent. There isn't one "right" way to spell it, IMO.

That's interesting, because Behind the Name says that the Spanish version is... Anastasia! Also, the Greek came first in any case. Anastacia is listed as an English "variant," read "accidental by-product of a semi-literate population." So I'm afraid your opinion is up against the wall of fact.

Noted, but in the end my "opinion" is what will decide. I would be fine with Anastasia, but I have to see what H thinks also. It's not like I'm trying to spell it Annastasheyah or something crazy like that, lol, calm down.

The only ones I really like out of the whole list are Charlotte (though I agree that it's too popular), Elias and Grant. The rest are kind of a weird mix of really trendy 90's names and really trendy 2014 names. They'll be those generation's Tiffanys and Barbaras for sure.

This. You may like Roman and Felicity?

  • To me Anastasia and Anastacia are two different names so it depends on how you are planning to pronounce Anastacia.

  • The others have had some good suggestions for you, but I just needed to say how much I dislike Camden/Camdyn. If you want Cami as a nn for a girl, I would prefer Cameron (even though I know that will not be popular on this board). I know a little toddler named Cameron Kate and she is adorable.
