So if anyone recalls when my LO went into the hospital, I was told by the infectious disease doctor my c-section wound needed to be reopened. My original ass of a gyno told me he would basically not do anything about it, even with the recommendation from ID doctor. My original gyno has maintained this whole time that my wound was fine and I only got a referral to the ID doctor because I talked with him myself. ( I started having issues with my wound 2 weeks post op)
I switched to a new gyno and he confirmed it needed to be done. I was sent to a surgeon and saw a wound nurse as well. All say the same, it is time for surgery. The last culture they took showed more nastiness growing in the wound and despite antibiotics it keeps coming back and my wound still will not close. So after much thought and careful deliberation, surgery it is. It will be done by the surgeon and gyno and the wound nurse will come in at the end and they are placing a wound vac on me. Plan is to remove the current c-section area, drain the pockets of fluid and remove all the infected tissue. They are not sure how far down my wound goes...the hopes is that it has not invaded the muscle, but they are not sure. There is one area that they think may have a hernia because of the infection weakened the muscle.
Meanwhile, doing the surgery means I will most likely lose my job. I was on bedrest starting July then 8 weeks post baby. I had no FMLA coverage, my employer held my job out of courtesy. My original gyno got pissy with me and released me to go back to work because I was pushing him to address the wound. I had informed my employer that I may need to go off for surgery when I came back and was told they understood. Fast forward 8 weeks and now I have to go off, I am being told that unless I can come back full duty next Wednesday, I will be terminated. Due to being off with pregnancy, I have not meant the required number of hours worked for FMLA.
All the doctors have told me it can't wait so into surgery I go not knowing what the outcome of my employment will be. I am more then willing to go back wednesday and deal with the pain, but there will be a lifting restriction. I do not do much lifting in admissions to start with so I am hoping in the end, I will be able to return and they will accept the restriction. In good news, since it is related to original disability, I will be able to collect long term disability even if they terminate me! I just get all stabby every time I think that my team of doctors now say all this could of been avoided if my original gyno addressed this when I went to him with problems 2 weeks post op. I cant go back but I can ask for some funny Oct 13 giffing to help ease my anxiety! Please!:)
Thanks for reading and a pic for your time...plus gives me the opportunity to AW!
Re: Dear diary, long, surgery tomm, need gifs
Thank you...tomorrow at 930 am.
I did see the OB who actually did my surgery on Monday and told me to start flushing it with hydrogen peroxide and to come back in a week if it's getting worse.
At what point made them say you needed to have the second surgery? I'm wondering if I'm headed down the same road.
Good luck OP!

Do not use hydrogen peroxide on a wound. That is old school thought. It actually breaks the tissue down. Just stick to soap and water. Something should have been done way earlier for me, but I am too far down the road. An ultrasound showed I have about 7 pockets of fluid throughout my abdomen under my incision. I have been on four rounds of antibiotics and yet the wound cultures keep coming back that the bacteria keeps coming back and different strains are showing up. Due to that they decided the wound is too "dirty" to let it close on its own plus it can't close due to the pockets of fluid. I would ask for a wound culture or go for a second opinion. Maybe see a wound nurse. Sorry you are having the same issue as well! This sucks!

My OB did say that it was an old school way but he thought that since I have red, raw edges that it would help close it. The drainage/seepage has gone way down but it's still there.
Also when you get the wound vac, make sure they lidocaine the shit out of your incision (inside and outside) before changing it out. My first time the stupid home nurse didn't and I was screaming when she had to tear my "insides" off the foam! It was literally the worse pain I have ever had!
