sleeping in carseat

When my LO falls asleep in her infant carrier I leave in her there for her nap untill she wakes up. If it is overnight it could be up to 6 hours. I've heard other moms do this too. Then I had a thought... I remembered hereing that if you take a child on a long road trip, you have to stop every so often to take them out of car seat because of circulation. I tried to google this but came up with nothing. Has anyone heard this before???

Re: sleeping in carseat

  • I hadn't heard it before but since you shouldn't wake a sleeping baby, I'd leave her in the carseat too.

  • I never heard that either.

My daughter slept in her car seat for a while - she has acid reflux. Her doctor said that was fine to let her sleep in it

  • I haven't heard that..my pedi recd that we put ds in his carseat for his reflux there for a little while. We now elevate his crib a bit and he does fine but for the couple of weeks and when we travel he sleeps in his carseat and actually sleeps the best in that thing. Too bad we can't use it all the time!
  • There is some research that says that the car seat is not a safe sleeping position for extended periods of time because a baby's neck can slump forward and compress airways. If your DC is asleep in the car seat put a book or folded up blanket or something to prop up the front of the car seat so that the baby is in a more reclined position. Thats what we do and I feel safer.
