Im 17 weeks pregnant, I woke up with stomach cramps this morning and I've had them all day, the middle of my stomach and back really hurt. Its not been a constant bad pain, it eases then gets worse again, especially if I've been sat a while then get up.

I've had pain before during pregnancy but shortly after I've gone to the loo and its gone, but going to the loo didn't help at all this time, although it was painful in my stomach to go.

I'm not sure whether I Ned to go to the hospital, or if I'd just be wasting the doctors time. I live in the UK so its free to go, and I've been join the NHS symptom checker online which tells me to go to the hospital, but then the questions on there are quite vague.

  • I'd go. Just for peace of mind. Hope everything is ok!

  • I'd at least give the office a call and see what they say.

  • I have a nurseline I can call with questions that help me figure out what to do. Is there something comparable? When in doubt, I would go get it checked out, if only to know what to do in the future. I went to the dr with cramping pain and now I have a better idea of when to worry, and when to say "hey, this is what it is."

I get the worry about wasting time, but pain is usually the body's way of saying something is up. It could be normal, but you don't know for sure, and why should you be in pain without getting some direction on easing it?

I would go in to get checked out. Not to be a nervous nelly, but at 28 weeks with my son I was having cramping and chalked it up to BH. Turns out I was 2 cm dilated and having full on contractions. Bedrest and Meds kept my son inside 8 weeks longer.

When in doubt, get checked out.

  • I had a similar issue, I was also very paranoid so I called my doctor first. She brought me in to check that my cervix was still closed (it was!) and told me that if it continued, just to go to labor and delivery to make sure I wasn't having contractions. The next day, I woke up and it was worse so I decided to go check it out. It turned out that everything was ok! I was monitored by a nurse and got my preregistration done :-) I think they understand the need to make sure everything is ok, but I would definitely give your doctor a call first. Good luck!
