Think you have the flu? Think again!

Mastitis sucks.  I started hurting Monday and figured I could suck it up until my yearly annual Friday.  Stupid mistake.  Tuesday I started having a fever which went up to 102 but luckily went away by Wednesday morning.  Wednesday it just became really really hard to hold my baby because it hurt when ANYTHING touched my left breast which had started to get a horrible rash.  Thursday evening the fever came back.   Friday I went to a weight check at my lactation consultant who asked how I was doing who then took one look and immediately diagnosed it as mastitis which really wont get better until you get antibiotics.  So I went to my regularly scheduled OB annual (since LCs cant write Rxs for antibiotics) who took one look at me and wrote it chastising me for suffering and not coming sooner.  My appointment was at 2:40 PM so by the time we make it to the pharmacy the OB is closed for the weekend and she screwed up the dosage big time (she wrote 100 g and according to doctor google the correct dosage is 250 to 500 mg) so the pharmacist would not fill it because obviously he didn't want to be responsible for causing me to overdose and die.   So I called my doctors emergency line and they told me it was against practice policy to call in prescriptions and I would have to wait until monday.  ARE YOU KIDDING ME! I HAVE HAD A 101 FEVER FOR DAYS AND YOU WANT ME TO WAIT UNTIL MONDAY, I NEED TO BE BETTER BY MONDAY!  So my husband ended up dragging me to an urgent care doctor and then taking the Rx to a 24 hour CVS after getting a new perscription that wasnt defective.

1) So if you think you have the flu (lack of appetite, hurt like all get out, achy, burny or itchy feeling in one or both boobs) call the doctor immediately.
2)  This was the last straw with my OB.  I have been contemplating breaking up with her for months, which I considered more because I hated our hospital and the fact they gave my baby pacifiers and I suspect formula bottles without telling me and now I have a baby who I have been working months with a lactation consultant to get her to nurse and have finally given up, (The hospital one didnt check in on us ever the first two days and then apparently they don't have one on staff on weekends, is it really my fault I went into labor on a wednesday night?)  I hate exclusively pumping and mastitis has made it suck so much worse, but not pumping will just make it worse right now.

So now I am on the hunt for a midwife, I have heard good things about VBACing with them in my area so I can find one long before I ever consider a baby #2.
