Not so skinny moms - carrier?

I am not really into wearing my baby. I borrowed an ergo from my sister with dd1 and used it one if two times - my sil has it now.

I now realize that baby wearing may really make life easier now. I did not like the ergo because I felt even bigger (I'm a 14-16) then normal. I felt it never fit right.

So, not so skinny ladies - any recommendations? I should say I am scared of the moby and I'm not sure is feel comfy walking too far in that.

I'm "not so skinny" and love my moby although I've only worn it at the house. I also have an infantino carrier from target and I like that one also. I haven't used either when we've been out and about, only around the house- I was also scared of the Moby, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoy it.

  • I use a simple sling. It works great. And I'm the same size (14-16).

  • I have the infantino sync. It's a wrap like the moby, but has an added buckle that goes around your waist that is adjustable. I love it because both dh and I can use it easily, it has the flexibility of the moby, but with added support

  • I'm a 14-16 too and I love both my Moby and the ergo.

  • I'm bigger than you, and I love my moby. It took a while to figure out, but I'm pretty comfortable wearing DS in it now. I was afraid to try any other carriers cause I didn't think they'd fit, but this one works great so far!

  • Post-baby, I'm probably a little bigger than you, but DD and I love our Beco. Although I have only put her in it once, she fell right asleep and I was able to get some things done. Love it!

  • Thanks ladies! Looks like I need to consider the moby for sure

  • Yeah, I thought I would feel the same about the Moby but if wrapped correctly it feels really secure. I was surprised and had no paranoia wearing it out. I also have an ergo and did not feel bigger but that could just be me. DH is 6'2" 300 and wears both.

  • I bigger too. I didn't like myoby last time around but do this time. I also have a beco Gemini that I LOVED last time. I haven't tried it this time around (only 1 week pp$ but plan on using it when I go out to run errands.

  • I'm a solid 12 and I love my ergo. I'm intimidated by wraps though.

  • We have a Manduca, which is very similar to an Ergo, but has a longer waist belt and is a bit more padded in my opinion.  I am a 16 now and it fits fine, with lots of room to spare.  DH is 6' and 300lb and he can wear it no problem.  I wore DS1 in it up until I was about 5 months pregnant (back carry) and had no problem.  Now I am wearing DS2 in it and he loves it. I've even managed to nurse him in it while walking around Walmart.
I would give your Ergo another try.  I find I have to pull my shirt either over or under the waist belt when I'm wearing my kids.  If I have a shorter shirt, I pull it over the waist belt, and longer shirts I have to pull smoothe under the belt.  Otherwise they can get bunchy and make me look bigger than I am.

  • I love the maya ring sling.  It is easier to put on quickly than my moby and very easy to breastfeed in.

  • I'm a 14/16 and I love the Britax carrier. It's so easy to adjust and I feel very comfortable in it.

  • I am very plus size (size 20/22) and I will chime in that the Moby is great! I think it's the best choice for plus size moms and dads, based on the ones I tried on in the store.
