Baby Names

What do you think of..

Luciano?

My family is Italian, but this is actually DH's pick. He's Finnish, and we were going in a Scandinavian direction, but honestly, DH doesn't like any of the Scandinavian names I mention. Then he suggests things like Dante, Giuseppe, Luciano, etc.

He's only kind of driving me crazy.

NN would be Luc (looch) or Luci (looch-ee).

I'm a little skeptical because our last name couldn't be further from Italian. 3 syllables, starts with H and sounds kind of like Heineken, but without the K.

Help! Other suggestions welcome :)

Re: What do you think of..

  • It's REALLY Italian. Not that it's a bad thing. Dante is pretty cool without the heavy Italian sound.

  • I can't get behind anything that ends with an or en because it sounds too rhyme-y!

I don't mind it being super Italian either but maybe 1 or 2 syllables would take the edge off and help the flow?

  • Oh, Enzo might work! Santino is ok, too.

Luca I love but DH does not :(

  • That's my uncle's name. It's old fashioned but a nice name overall. I personally prefer the French equivalent, Lucien. What about Giordano or Leonardo or Giacomo?

  • I come from a very Italian family, and I love Italian names, but Luciano is a little "much" for me.

    I love Luca though!

  • Thanks guys!

I personally don't care for Dante, either. It's too mid-90's or something. He loves it though.

I'm going to keep rolling Luciano around in my head. I do love Luca, Lucas, Luke, Lucien, etc, so maybe it will grow on me. It's kind of the suped up Italian version, so we'll see. Maybe we'll find a good nn.

You'd have to know us, but the irony that DH is trying to get me on board with an Italian name is really comical. And annoying at the same time.

  • It's okay, it's not my favourite. I've lived in Finland and love the names, but they are difficult to pronounce in English (i.e. Pekka, Mika, Ville, Lauri). How about (granted, they are more Swedish) Rasmus, Linus, Viktor, Oskar? Suggestions for Italian names: Giorgio, Brusco, Alessandro, Francesco?

  • reminds me of lucky luciano from boardwalk empire. I can't not think of it. lol
  • I like it a lot! Also, what about Lucas? Dante reminds me of Dante's Inferno, and the stoner named Dante in Grandma's Boy.
