Opening ceremonies

Anyone watching? I don't think I like how some of the athletes are walking out with their cell phones out taking pictures or videoing. Also, I loved how the announcer was talking about the alphabet in Russia and said "if you want to know more about it, google it."

Re: Opening ceremonies

  • I'm watching. Some of the team uniforms are cool, but some are not. Those women who escort out the teams look weird and futuristic. I agree that all of the camera phone pics take away from it, but I guess the athletes might feel like this could be a once in a lifetime thing, so they want to capture the moment.

And am I the only one who cries during that P&G moms commercial?
  • Not sure how I feel about the USA sweaters. They are very busy.

  • The escorts costumes remind me of the hunger games. I get the athletes taking pictures, but I wish they didnt have them themselves, especially since there are so many other pictures being taken.

  • The summer Olympics were a lot worse re:cameras and phones. That is the one thing I remember about that opening ceremony.

I do not like team USAs sweaters. DH commented that it was Ralph Lauren, what did I expect.

I'm hoping there is something awesome after they finish announcing the athletes.
  • LOL, the google line cracked me up.

  • Shit, I just missed it. How many athletes does Russia have?

I felt the same way. Of course my DH loves them. And wants his own. You know, not to wear in public, but to wear around the house :)

  • Yes, Candyland. My DS was wanting to know why that little girl was walking on people's hands?

  • I caught a few minutes.  We turned it on right before the Russians come out.  I am having a hard time watching it knowing the issues that are behind the scenes so to speak.  The point of the opening ceremonies are kind of to dazzle, and impress, and all I can think of is the poor accommodations, and all the other bad things associated with it.

  • Yea, I was just watching thinking "we all know the truth, who you trying to fool?"

  • Russia has their own version of their history. The announcers just commented that Putin basically controls the history books. It is kind of sad.
  • The projections are amazing, but some of the set pieces really make me question....
The "sun" the followed the horses looked like a giant flaming anus to me.
When the buildings floated up they looked like giant colorful condoms.

  • Dh and I are still laughing a bit at the stubborn snowflake.

On Russian tv they apparently cut to footage from last night's rehearsal where all opened and they had pyrotechnics.
