Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

UPDATE: List of questions to ask OB after MC

UPDATE, I had posted a few days about possible questions or issues to bring up at my OB appointment following my D&C. I wanted to post my questions and answers just in case anyone else was looking to compile a list to take to their OB. I'm sure there are things I left out but this is what I can up with and although it was a sad appointment it was informative.

This was the list of questions i compiled:
*Possible issues to test?
-Clotting disorder
-Fibroids
-Ovarian cysts
-Thyroids

*when to expect results from pathology report
*when/where to get genetic testing
*When can we TTC
*Treatment plan for next pregnancy

I got all of my questions answered. In a month we are going to see a genetic specialist who will run tests to give us a definite on what keeps going wrong. She is pretty sure I have a blood clotting disorder which means when I get pregnant again I will need medication daily or possible injections.

We can start TTC again in 3-6 months :(

I am still so sad after losing this second baby but hearing our OB so optimistic saying we WILL find the problem and fix it and I WILL have a healthy pregnancy this next time made me feel a lot better. They are just her words but it feels great to know she is in my corner and is going to do her best so this doesn't happen again.

I have a 1yo DS. No complications. Never had probs getting pregnant, just recently having problems staying pregnant. It's strange to me how this clotting disorder came out of the blue (if that's what it is). If any of you have experience or insight on the clotting disorders please inform me!

Re: UPDATE: List of questions to ask OB after MC

  • Thank you so much for this! I have my appt coming up and am still a wreck (2nd loss) so I hadn't even thought of any questions to ask. These are handy.
So sorry about your loss but lots of hugs to you and positive thoughts and prayers for your next pregnancy
  • So sorry for your loss! My sister and I both have Factor 5 Leiden, a blood clotting disorder, and have to self inject heparin twice a day while pregnant. My sister had a healthy son in 2009 and then experienced a series of 3 miscarriages. After the third, they discovered the Factor 5. She went on to have another healthy child with the help if heparin.

Factor 5 is genetic. You can have either one or two markers passed down from your parents. My sis and I both have one marker so we didn't know we had an issue until we got pregnant.

I had an early m/c and then a full term pregnancy... Both on heparin. I just experienced another m/c at 5 weeks and had not started heparin yet.

I'm glad to hear you're seeing specialists. Get as much info as you can and then try, try again. M/C is always a possibility, even more so with F5L, but don't let it stop you. I have a beautiful kid - she's living proof that you can carry to term with this issue. Good luck to you. Feel free to PM me if you have questions. Happy to share what I know.

  • Like the previous poster, I too have a clotting issue. I actually had two clots, one in my right lung and one in my left thigh. After I was treated (for 9 months), I was tested for a genetic issue. I am a carrier for Factor 5 Leiden. Basically, I will never be able to be on birth control because that increases my chances of having another clot. Being pregnant also increases my chances of having a clot. I chose Lovenox instead of heparin, so I was only doing an injection once a day. I still had an m/c, but my OB is optimistic about my next pregnancy being successful.

Hang in there. At least you are getting some answers.
  • I'm happy you have found light at the end of the tunnel!
