LO's with reflux- sleeping where?

DS's reflux didn't get really bad until around 13 weeks. From 7 weeks till then he napped in the RNP or bouncy seat and slept in his crib at night. When the reflux blew up there was no more crib sleeping. He would wake up every 30-60 minutes screaming, even with the mattress elevated.

So for the past month he only sleeps in the RNP, swaddled, naps and night time. Any other way, no sleep. Anyone else in this boat? He is finally getting big enough that I am starting to realize he will grow out of the RNP soon. And then my life may be over.

DD slept in her crib fine from 3 weeks on so this is worrying me but she didn't have reflux. He isn't rolling yet and like I said, he is swaddled in the RNP so he isn't going anywhere, however I know the crib is safest/best. But I also don't want him to be uncomfortable bc of the reflux either. I'm hoping he isn't the only reflux baby (or non reflux baby for that matter) still in the RNP... Can anyone relate? Or have any advice?

Re: LO's with reflux- sleeping where?

  • We just transitioned from RNP to crib with a wedge last week. By the end of the night, his heels were hanging over the edge of the RNP, so I knew it was time. The transition was not bad. One night of up every hour to soothe him and put him back down, and the next night he slept straight through. BUT I could tell he wasn't waking b/c of reflux, it was just the whole new sensation of sleeping in the crib, like he didn't wake up screaming and crying, just restless. I also put a u-shaped towel under the crib sheet to simulate the 'feel' of the RNP and keep him positioned on the wedge, I'm now working on slowly transitioning the towel out.

DS transitioned to the crib a few weeks ago with no problem. We have a wedge under the mattress. What meds is your LO on? DS was on Zantac and it did nothing for him. We then moved to Prilosec and it has worked wonders.

L is on Zantac and Prilosec, max doses of both. He still has feeding issues despite most of his symptoms being under control. He fights most of his bottles but I win most of the time so at least he is gaining weight now. We have an OT evaluation next week to see if they can help us make feedings easier for him. I guess Because we are still struggling with his reflux, the crib thing is a battle I don't want to fight right now hence him still being in the RNP.

  • A tucker sling might be a compromise? Read about it in a baby book, but have never used it.

  • LO has been on Zantac since he was 5 weeks old. He sleeps in his Nap Nanny. It's great for reflux babies. We are transitioning him to his crib because he is outgrowing it. It truly saved our lives.

  • Our son used to sleep in his crib, but then like your son it flared up (around 12 weeks) and he just would not sleep in it. He's on the max dose of zantac for the days but he's up every 2-3 hours in the night and sleeps in his mamaroo. I'm hoping to get him back in his crib soon and for him to finally gain some weight.

  • LO has mild reflux and is still sleeping in her RNP, not planning to move her to the crib anytime soon.
