Ok ladies, I'm looking for toy suggestions to work on colors, shapes, first words with DS. We already do what we can with him in our daily routine (reciting colors that we see around the house, clarifying words for objects: cup, pillow, dog, bed, etc) but I wondered if anyone had some really great interaction education toys they are using. TIA!

DS just got the Eric Carle stacking blocks for his birthday. They have colors, shapes, numbers, the alphabet, and animals. He loves knocking them down but I try to identify them as I build him towers ("here's the cat," "here is purple").

We have the Touch N Feel picture cards. There are about 15 cards in a pack and DD loves to play with the cards. She can now name some of things and knows the name of all of them--picks up the right one when I ask.
I too have been doing a lot of Montessori reading. I am going to make color, shape and word baskets as well and rotate hem throughout the house. The word baskets I got from a book called The Cow Says Moo...gather items or even flash cards, that are simple words for their age and go through them together. funny how I feel like Jack learns more from these simple things that the crazy, loud electronic toys. Those just tend to distract him.
Exactly, I was trying to avoid loud electronic toys. Well more anyway, he got some for Christmas. There are some Melissa and Doug toys that seem good and some Manhattan Toys too. And we have a set of wooden blocks that we've been using for numbers, colors and letters. He mostly just stacks them, but he does recognize the "J" and the "1" blocks because when I ask for one of them he brings the correct one to me.
One of our best for learning has been a toy farm with all of the aminals. DD loves playing with them and now knows "cluck cluck," "moo moo" and "baa baa" with her corresponding animals and we love to work on those together.
