Question about frozen BM

I took a bag out of my deep freezer and somehow the bag was stuck to the basket, so when I picked it up the bag tore. I let the bag thaw on its side so it didn't leak but now I'm wondering whether it should just be thrown out. WWYD use it or toss it?

Re: Question about frozen BM

  • Personally I would use it. Unless it had been exposed while torn to chemicals or something. If it went straight to s clean place and there are no pieces of the bag in it?

  • I would toss it. It's probably fine, but you're going to feed it to a baby with a weak digestion and immunity. It would worry the crap out of me. As much as I hate the thought of dumping liquid gold, I'd rather not risk hurting his belly

  • As long as it wasn't torn before you pulled it out (in other words, you saw the tear occur, it wasn't sitting there torn for who knows how long) and your baby is otherwise healthy, it hasn't been thawed >24 hrs, etc, I'd still use it.

What is there to worry about?  It hasnt touched anything other than air?  Unless strange people are standing over the milk hacking their brains out the baby isnt going to be exposed to anything she hasnt already been exposed to her at home

I totally agree, if the bag was frozen to the basket chances are there was moisture on the outside of the bag when you put it in the freezer. If you saw the bag tear, and the milk was still frozen I would use it.
