Feel sick in the middle of the night

I feel feverish, nauseous and just in general yucky when I get up on the middle of the night with LO. Come morning I'm always fine. Anyone else experience this? Is it just hormonal?

  • I think it probably is partly hormonal, but also lack of sleep will do that to you. When I wake up on little sleep I feel like shit warmed over (nauseous, headachy, sometimes even the chills). I do notice I feel kind of like that depending on the feeding of the night and how many hours I've gotten beforehand. This is my 2nd feeding of the night so it's not so bad, but I definitely felt like that at the 12:30 feeding when I only had gotten an hour and a half of sleep before that.

  • I feel like that sometimes too and I agree with PP that it does depend on how much sleep I get in between feedings. Also it could be that you need to eat something. Are you BFing? I am and at first I felt that way because I wasn't eating enough; I started to save a snack for a MOTN feeding and it made me feel better. Maybe that will help you??

  • Good points...it's always worst if I've had less than 3 hrs of sleep and I should have a snack. I cut dairy and feel like I'm not finding enough to eat bc I ate so much dairy before.

  • @mtb21 that's what I'm afraid of! It's been going on for a few weeks and I don't think I actually have a fever but have had recurrent plugged ducts so don't know.

  • Yup it's sleep deprivation. I have this 24 7 when I don't sleep which is often now

Ya try a snack, it's helped me a ton. Even just eating a banana works for me!

  • It has to do with the amount of Seratonin in your body.  We're all getting less now that we're not sleeping as much and as efficiently.  Try looking up seratonin rich foods and see if it helps after  a week or two.  You actually have more Seratonin in your gut than in the brain.  Lack of it in the gut can cause nausea.
