We are planning on telling our families after our 6.5 week u/s, and announcing it to the "facebook" world at 12 weeks.

We told our families and best friends soon after we found out. They were all people we would want supporting us should something happen. Our families kinda spilled the beans after that and a lot of people knew who we hadn't told. After that, we "officially" announced after our 8 week appt of seeing a healthy baby and strong heartbeat (but that was mostly because, well, so many people already knew)
We told our mothers and siblings as soon as we found out. We told our closest friends after our 8.5 week U/S and appointment. We will "post" it to the world after our 12 week appointment, providing everything is still going as it should at that time (3 more weeks!)
Right now I'm over 5 weeks and I've only told my husband and one of my best friends (she has two kids so I know I can ask her anything TTC and pregnancy related). DYING to tell my mom, but we are waiting until my parents, his mom, and my grandmother are all together for a birthday party at the end of February. Trying to think of a fun way to tell them. :-)
It's funny,... I actually told some neighbors before our family. They are the people we see day in and day out, the ones who play with my DS, the ones who see how bloated I am, and the ones who actually gave me good advice about getting PG again.
After last year's m/c, I really wanted to wait to tell our moms until we got a heartbeat, but I still have no doctor's appointment (a whole different, stressful story) and my MiL arrives today for a visit.
So I went ahead and told my mom this week (8+w), and will tell my MiL when she arrives. My mom will be crushed if something goes wrong, but I just couldn't make the timing work.
We told my sisters the day we found out. They just happen to come over for dinner the night we took the test. We told my parents this past Sunday, after our ultrasound appt. Partly because we wanted to make sure the baby looked fine so far and also partly because I didn't want to do it over the phone. We've told a few friends in person. We'll put it on Facebook once we hit the 12 week mark. We have a lot of family that lives out of state so it's the easiest way to tell everyone.
