What do you want for you?

I have money people gave me for gifts for Christmas and my birthday.  I have $650 I could spend.  The problem is I feel selfish and indulgent buying things for myself when I could be using the money for bills, DD, or things we want to get for the new baby.  I feel like I should probably spend some on myself though, since that's why the money was given to me.  I'm really not sure what I want though.  I'm not into technology and was given an iPad for Christmas so I don't need anything like that.  I'm not into shopping for clothes right now since I don't know what will fit after baby and I'm set on maternity clothes for now.  My sister and close girlfriends don't live nearby, so a day or weekend trip with them isn't an option.  So if you had that much money to spend on you, what would you get??

Ugh, I would have the same problem! I'd want to pay bills or get baby items.

But, if I had $650 to spend on me, I would go get my hair cut and dyed and I would go to a spa and get a facial or something, since I've really been to a spa.

I'd buy a nice purse, some shoes and cute underwear.

And maybe some nice bottles of wine for down the road.

I'd have the same problem, but if I had the money to spend on myself and I could overcome the guilt of not putting it into savings, I'd buy a new laptop.

If it will make you feel better, can you put $300 towards bills and spend $350 on yourself?  That way more than half of it is still for you, but you can actually ENJOY it cause you're not feeling guilty?

Anyway, whatever amount you decide to spend on yourself, this is a little list of what I'd buy for myself if I had to:

* Facial (like Teal, I've never been to a spa!)
* Mani/Pedi (I always do my nails myself)
* New purse
* New makeup or skin products
* Go to a new restaurant and see a concert or something fun before the baby gets here
* Some items to look forward to post baby (maybe a wine club for after the baby gets here)

Definitely go for the day at the spa.  I'd give anything to be able to have that right now.

I'd get a massage and go out for a nice dinner. Everything else would go to bill and baby stuff.

 ETA: In my wild money spending fantasy the money stretches waaaay more than it should.

ETA #2 : DH & I pooled all our Christmas money to buy a new washer & dryer. So I'm much more boring than the above funness suggests!

I'd treat myself to a nice new purse (I have a Coach bag from a few years ago that I still use & love - it was a seriously good investment).

Also, Victoria's Secret Undies.

And some nice jewellery!

Bottom line - buy/spend on what makes you happy! (At least some of it!)

We would totally do a weekend somewhere, even just at a hotel downtown, but we have no one who can watch DD overnight

I'm thinking dinner out with DH, prenatal massage, expensive diaper bag I've been eyeing, stand freezer I keep talking about buying, and putting the rest toward my baby list. 

Chicago ladies, who wants to join me for a massage and lunch??

Totally selfish just-for-me purchase: a Clarisonic. My face is all sorts of effed-up from pregnancy and general laziness. 

Reality: I would put it toward our house downpayment / inspection fees or use it for baby stuff.

I'm horrible with this kind of stuff. I'd probably go out to eat because we try to go out very little. But other than that I'd be one to totally pay some bills.

Maybe get something for you and baby. I have a diaper bag from DD but I want a new one (backpack style this time). So it's not really a 'need' but a want for me.

Oh I change my answer with this in mind. DH & I are planning a 10 year anniversary cruise to Alaska (still 6 years away). We figure we'll be done with baby's by then and it'll be a treat. 

So maybe half bills, but half dream up a nice vacation for the future and start saving now.

A nice dinner out with DH would be the top of my list and maybe some prenatal yoga classes. Although I might also splurge on some shoes. I LOVE SHOES.

I'd probably put some of it in savings since we just had a really expensive car repair. Then I'd buy clothes, make up, nail polish, get a hair cut, and go out for a nice dinner with DH.

A massage! You'll want it even more as you get towards the end and you're huge and constantly sore.

If we weren't in the process of selling our house/building a new one I would probably spend about half on a nice night downtown for DH and I. Show, dinner, fancy hotel room, fancy hotel room sex all followed by brunch the next morning. Then with the other $325 I'd allot $100 each for me, DD and DH to spend on whatever we wanted.

Since we are in the process of selling our house and building another it would go straight into our money market account for the downpayment! Double ovens woot woot!

Fancy dinner, tickets to a concert or Broadway show, new kitchen gadget and a mini shopping spree at West Elm or Pottery Barn for me. If you want to spend it on the baby but feel guilty not using the money for yourself, is there something you want that the baby doesn't necessarily need but you would like to have? An expensive diaper bag or maybe put it towards a nicer stroller if there's one you want that might be pricier. Or put it towards maternity photos if you wanted to have those done.

These are awesome.  Have you looked into the smaller versions (Mia)?  I think they work just as well as the full-size brushes and you can find really good deals for around $100.  I don't really think it necessarily "cleans" my face any better than other things I've used in the past, but I think my skin texture is so much better.  It's really great for exfoliation.

I would totally go for some nice make up, VS underwear, a prenatal yoga class, and a prenatal massage!  You could get all of that for half of the money (or less) and save the rest.  Then you can look great and feel great!  Win win!

I splurged on some new mac make-up over the weekend because I was feeling pretty downtrodden and my under eye circles make me look like a raccoon these days, and suddenly people keep commenting that I'm "glowing."  Nope, if you could see me sans make-up you'd know it's all thanks to mac!

You said you got an iPad so my answer of iPad Air is out. But, really, I would probably buy baby stuff. Some of this stuff is still for me, i.e. rocker glider, stroller, diaper bag.

I would buy the nice glider that I talked myself out of last time. I wound up with a recliner, and I hated it. We moved it to the living room and bought a 2nd-hand el cheapo wooden glider for the nursery. (hate it, too) Even though I wasn't able to nurse DS, I spent a TON of time in that chair. I so wish I had gotten the good one the first time around!
