Im about to buy some velcro sneakers and I measured her foot and it's still 4". How fast do toddler feet grow? I feel like they've been the same size for months and I dont want to buy a size 4 for $37 and have her grow out of them...
I would suggest going to stride rite or some place and having them measured. When we went the lady explained that he should be able to wear the pair we bought for about 3 months. She also let us know that he needs an extra wide shoe.
We are a 5 wide width. He usually lasts 3weeks- 1 month in a pair. I usually take him to get remeasured at 3 week mark and buy next size at that time. I then hold them for a week or two,
We have only bought one pair of real shoes so I don't have a frame of reference on how fast D's feet are growing but he has been in his current pair for about 5 or 6 weeks.
6 extra wide. Holy cow. But daddy is 6'4" so he will be a big boy! And that was a few months ago. He'll probably need new shoes within the next few months.
I said 5.5 but he has a size 5 and a size 6 shoe and he can wear them both with the 6 being a little big but it gives him room to grow. The 5 is getting close to being done with soon but I don't want him to wear the new shoes to school yet and get them all dirty. the slippers I buy him are a 5-6.
@persephonerose I know! That's what I said, but sure enough a month or so after a new pair he begins tripping and having a hard time walking. That is usually my clue to get measured.
Woman at Striderite told me that it should be more like 2 months but he's not quite making that. Now that he is in the FULL walkers (not the stage 2's) I think we may get a little more time. But it is something I watch closely as the first time I took him back I was squeezing his size 4 foot into a size 3! I felt terrible!
He only wears them outside because its sooooo frigging cold out and the boots are already too small.
If it were warmer here, he wouldn't wear shoes at all. We don't let him walk while we are shopping, and if we are at someone's home, it should be clean enough (and safe enough) for sock feet.
B has size 18-24month Robeez. Their size chart shows that to be a 6.5 - 8. They are a little big on him, but he only wears them for warmth when we are out.
I'm with katiemay...we have robeez but they are really just to keep her feet warm. No real shoes yet. She has kind of tiny feet for her height...she wears the 6-12 month robeez. Now that she's in the beginning stage of walking we will probably go get some stride rites. My mom has been waiting to buy them for LO!
So it depends on the shoe. She has a size 5 pair of sneaks and a size 6 winter boot (which is, admittedly a little too big). Most of the time she is barefoot. When the apartment is cold, she wears a pair of 18-24 month leather slippers...which I think are supposed to be size 4.5, but I don't know for sure.
She has only just hit the point where the sneaks fit, and I expect she will be out of them next month. Seems a shame, in part because she runs around without shoes most of the time.
@katiemay8979 We did not do shoes until D started showing a desire to walk around in places other than the house. As soon as he started fighting to get down while in the store and out to eat we got him a pair of shoes. By that time he was ready for Stride rites step 2 shoes. They aren't as flexible as the stage one shoes and better suited for the play ground.
Stride rite has a printable PDF size chart we used last night to measure and yep, she's a 3 (guess she just has small feet). Weve been doing Robeez too but they are not sturdy enough for the playground and grass. I bought a size 4 sneaker and hoping they fit this spring.
Is there a reason everyone has striderights? Am I ruining my baby's feet by letting her wear random brand hand-me-downs? Will I ever stop panicking over silly FTM stuff?
I used stride rite for several reasons. One I found a pair I didn't mind on sale for 20.00 and ordered them online according to their printed shoe chart. I ordered two pair in different sizes. When they came in I second guessed my choices and went to the store and she fit him properly. Which was a huge bonus for me, no more second guessing. Also then I realized why the ones I ordered did not seem right, because they were normal and he needed XW. Most places like target did not have soft-ish soled shoes in 6XW for a one year old. I also really like the feature in the shoes, where they print "its time to check your fit" on the inside of the shoe near the toe so that if that wears off you know its time for replacement.
The lady was really nice, also gave me some coupons for future purchases and let D run around in the store in the shoes for 20 minutes to make sure we were comfortable with putting him in those type (a flexible rubber sole instead of the leather sole). Great customer service always wins me over and she was amazing with all the kids in the store.
N has a pair of Pedipeds that I got off Zulilly for a great price that he wears some. His PT recommended mixing it up with a pair that has a little more of a sole. She suggested New Balance so that's what I got. I found some on sale for $10 and bought multiple sizes. He is currently in a 3 with a decent amount of room to grow. We don't have a Stride Rite nearby anymore but sometimes they have good sales and as @persephonerose said they have great customer service. Also it is important to make sure they are wearing the right size as it can really impact their gate and coordination .
Personally, I had foot issues when I was a baby and my feet faced inward and I had to wear a metal bar (wow, this post is dating me) across the bottom of my shoes to correct my gait. So I guess I'm hyper-aware of feet. Moreover, Im a massage therapist and in my studies there is a huge emphasis on gait...
I dont think you need to spend a lot of money but concentrate on the fit and support.
this post got me to thinking s we went and got sized today and bought a pair of stride rite with a visa gift card she got for Christmas... 43.00 is more than I spend on my shoes FOR SURE... will probably NOT go $$$ on all her shoes but felt that it was worth the money as she walks EVERYWHERE all day
A friend of mine who used to work at stride right told me I shouldn't re-use shoes because all babies feet are different and worn shoes can cause problems for babies feet depending on how the baby before feet wore them (like if they were stretched out or the cushioning was worn down wrong) so I use them because they fit DD good and I have an outlet by work that I can go to and they are really nice. I do use some target shoes but usually she is in socks or I use something called rubberoos which are socks with the whole bottom rubber so she doesn't slip and fall on our floors and at when she goes to nanas house

H wears size four, though I haven't had him sized.
@katiemay8979, H started wearing shoes when it was cold since he was traveling to DC/IL's, etc. When he transitioned to the Toddler room at 1 year he was also required to wear them all day, even though he was only taking steps at that point. We had hardwood floors at home, and he tends to wipe out a lot less if he's wearing grippy socks or shoes at home.
We went to Stride Rite again today because her shoes were seeming snug. She went from a 4.5 at 12 months to a 5.5 now. Geeze! She's starting the toddler room on Monday, and they have to wear shoes so we got her 3 pairs today. Hopefully she'll stay in them a little longer this time.
@chickie79 that's where we went. There is one at Northpoint Mall too, but they closed Gap at there (Gasps!!) so we went to Perimeter so we could return some stuff to Gap. Is Cumberland the closest mall to you?
@chickie79 what the eff!? I don't understand why they are closing. The NP Gap was always busy. I will just have to order online I guess, but it is a pain when you have to return something.
So I put 4 when this started, but went today and she is a 5! I remember when we got the 4's she was really only a 3.5 I just can't believe how big she is getting!!
Re: what size shoe is your LO wearing?
He is currently in a 6 XW.

we are in a 3, but she measured at 2.5. That was in October. I keep checking to see if she's got room and it feels like she does.
I've got tiny feet so I don't suspect she will ever have big feet.

BTW, Stride Rite is having a good sale right now.
