2nd Trimester

Decreased movement at 23.5 weeks

I'll be 24 weeks tomorrow, and I haven't felt a solid kick, squirm, hiccup or anything since yesterday afternoon. He's been a very active and strong lil guy so far the last few weeks, then all of a sudden barely any movement. I've read that it's possible that he may have flipped around and is kicking towards my back (and that's why I haven't felt anything).

Has anyone had this happen? I'm going to call dr office as soon as they open, but I'm concerned. I drank a glass of ice water and danced around a little bit and still nothing.

Re: Decreased movement at 23.5 weeks

  • Thank you ladies. I did feel some movement after posting that. I have noticed that my hip pain had gone away quite a bit, so he probably did change position :)

  • I vote baby has switched positions.  I was feeling pretty strong movements for a few days and as of yesterday they are considerably fainter - I'd guess baby is facing my back now thus I feel less.  Baby is still pretty small so movements can be really faint.  Further along you'll feel definite movement regardless of position.

  • I have been paranoid about this very thing for the past week!! I just switched from an OB/GYN office to a midwife and birthing center and had my 24 week last thursday.  Before then I was feeling SO much movement and even saw baby boy kick with my stomach moving at the midwife's office waiting for her.  Then all of a sudden the next day he stopped and has barely been moving.  I feel something occasionally but not much of anything and it's been freaking me out.  I actually stopped by my midwife's office earlier this week to drop off a birthing class check and spoke to one of them and they reassured me that everything was okay and that this is normal stuff.  She said to think of him as a 1lb piece of hamburger meat that's kicking and how much can he really kick being so tiny?  And then they also said that when he flips and faces towards the back, depending on placement of placenta, you may not feel anything at all for days at a time.  It's been a week for me of this and I'm hoping he flips back (I'm almost wondering if he got upset with the midwife for poking him a few times when trying to find the heartbeat with the doppler haha!) because the paranoia is really getting to me, especially since I'm getting closer to that 28 week mark of when things should really start to pick up which is what I'm feeling now.
  • Mine liked to be active for a week or so, then slow down for a couple days. He especially slowed down if he had been particularly active the day before... He would just wear his little self out! Now, at almost 36 weeks his movements have changed significantly because he doesn't have room anymore :-)
