Baby Oliver Haughton was very punctual, and arrived on his due date (Sunday Jan 26th) at 6:37am weighing 7lbs 5oz.
Long version:
On Saturday afternoon at 3pm I started to have some contractions. At around 9pm, they were consistent enough that we decided to head to the hospital.
When we got to the L&D assessment area, I was checked and found to be at 4cm with somewhat high blood pressure. They had me labour in the assessment room while they ran bloodwork to make sure I wasn't suffering from pre-eclampsia, which came back fine.
Because of the snowstorm, they actually had no birthing rooms free... They asked me to walk the halls of the hospital for an hour in an attempt to get things moving.
An hour later and they still had no rooms... So I was asked to walk for another hour. At this point it was 2am, and I was in a lot of pain, so they performed a cervical check and I had only progressed to 5cm.
Luckily they finally had a room, so I was brought in and was able to get an epidural at 3:30am.
Unfortunately it only worked on one side, so about 45 minutes later the anesthesiologist came back in and made an adjustment and I finally had some relief! It was short-lived because about 45 minutes later I was feeling the urge to push. I also felt like something was already coming out - my water still had not broken and the membranes were bulging out. When the nurse performed the cervical check, the water popped and they confirmed that I had gone from 5 to 9.5 in under 3 hours. My doctor was paged, and at 6:24am I was ready to start pushing... Baby Oliver was born 13 minutes later at 6:37am!
I have a second degree tear, but my pain is maybe a 1 out of 10 with some Advil/Tylenol. He is doing great as well, so we were able to come home from the hospital tonight... Now the fun begins!
