I prefer the way Niles sounds, but Nils is an interesting name.  I don't think I've heard it used in real life.

  • I prefer Nils to Niles, but I have a friend in france who named her son Nils and he is just adorable....

I also feel like Niles should really just be Miles and be done with it.

  • No one will mispronounce Niles, although people at first glance might assume it's the slightly-more-common Miles.

The only way I've heard Nils pronounced is rhyming with bills, not kneels.  I think this name is more likely to provoke mispronunciation, but it's a lovely name.

  • Depending on your last name I really like Nils (I would love it with a Scandinavian last name...not so much with an Italian one).

  • Niles.  I knew a Nils and he constantly had to explain how to pronounce his name and explain that it was a family name.  It rhymed with bills, not kneels.

  • I prefer Niall or Miles but would definitely choose Niles over Nils.
  • Niles. I have never heard Nils.

Although it has a certain butler-esque quality for me. I would prefer Nigel, Nelson, or another N name. I like Miles, though.
  • Nils!

DH is named Nils, but pronounces it like bills.

    Very Finnish name.

  • I knew a man with a name pronounced Neels - He spelled it Niels. So it's familiar to me and I kind of like it. But when I saw Nils my first thought was that it rhymed with bills. So there may be pronunciation issues to contend with on that one

I know someone named Nils, his name is pronounced "Nells".  It's Scandinavian I believe?
