Who uses the Large breast flanges for their pump?

Someone suggested to me the other day to try the large size flanges since pumping is a little painful for me still. What size breast do you have that would constitute needing the "large" size??

I'm about to order some but I'm wondering if my boobs are considered large....

Re: Who uses the Large breast flanges for their pump?

  • It isn't about breast size but nipple size. I got my nipples measured and now use the 27 (I think) size. I spent 10 dollars on the new flanges and it has made pumping painless! I highly recomind getting measured so that you get the right size.

You can get them measured by your OB or a Medela pump rep or a lactation consultant.

  • I have the Large (27mm) and they have made life much easier! Call medela they might be able to help you. I saw some of the XXL ones last weekend, HOLY CRAP those were huge.
  • I found you just need to experiment with them. I have the 27mm, the 30's and the next size up from that.  The 30's work best for me, but the 27's also work sometimes if my breasts aren't super duper full.
  • I had to get the biggest ones from Medela. Apparently I have ginormous nips?? In the hospital they gave me one size larger, so I guess the 27mm ones, and they were fine. But since I got home and started pumping 8 times a day my nips turn into super size when they are hard so the biggest size was necessary so I didn't rub too much. Honestly though, they still rub the sides somewhat. Maybe they are too big for me and it's sucking in too much of the areola... who knows, but it doesn't hurt and I get plenty of milk, so I'll stick with it for now.
