January 2014 Moms

lolinshag's Birthstory (GIF and PIP heavy)

We went in to L&D for a scheduled induction on Monday, January 13th, 2014 at 5:45 freaking AM in the morning. Of course the night before I took a Benadryl (sp?) to help me get a good nights sleep. Went to bed at 9 pm, woke up at midnight, and could not fall back asleep the whole night because I was just too dang excited. So by the time I was checked in at the hospital this is what I looked like:

They checked me and I was still at the same 3 cms I had been at for a few weeks. So they hooked me up to all the machines and IVs and what not till I looked like this:

The nurses started the pitocin and hubby and I settled in to our wait. I tried to sleep, but yeah, wasn't happening. Of cours,e DH laid down on the couch and was out like out like a light for the next few hours. At about 11 am, one of the nurses offered me Fenegren ans Stamadol (SP?). She said it would knock me out so I could sleep through the contractions. Sign my ass up!

(Oh and you should see the text I sent my LB @KaitiMac after I got the meds. Here it is)

I had only reached 5-6 cms by 5pm and was a squishy 80% effaced and I had just gotten my epidural. (Ah-maz-ing.) Alyssa's heart rate kept dropping and they were also having trouble even registering her on the monitor, so they put me on oxygen, readjusted the monitors, and had me lie down on my left side. The nurses also told me that Alyssa still wasn't engaged. She was very "blot-able" which means every time the nurses touched her head, she would float back up into my ribs. At this point I had every nurse on the floor in our room and I think 5 of them had their hand up my vag. They were all laughing and joking. One nurse put on a glove, lubed up, moved between my legs, and said "Hi, my name is Brenda and I will be shoving my hand up your who-ha today!" I about died laughing so hard! The nurses were great at keeping me calm and feeling safe even though it was scary with all that going on.

The nurses decided to call my doc in to check me. When she got there, she checked my dilation and was sitting there waiting for a contraction to feel my cervix during one. She had just said something about "I think we should go ahead and break your...Ahhh!" A Contraction started and my bag of waters bulged and popped ALL OVER THE DOCTOR. It even hit her in the face, haha.

At 6pm, the Dr decided to stop the pitocin and see how Alyssa and I did without it. By this time I was so flapping hungry! My mom had promised to sneak in a protein shake for me. She lied! Arrrggghhhh!

The next check was at 9 pm and I was 9cms! Hot damn! Just a tiny lip left! The nurse was able to massage that last bit away and we were ready to push. She had me do a test push. As soon as I started to push she said "Whoa whoa whoa! You are a great pusher! Let me get the doc." My OB came in and checked me, had me test push for her and immediately had me stop so she could suit up.

Once everything/one was in place, I gave three pushes, had a small 2nd degree episoitomy (sp?) and Alyssa Nicole was born @ 10:22 PM. 6 lbs, 8 ounces, 18 inches long. We had a 20% chance of Downs that we were worried about, but she came out just fine. Girl has some super long feet! I cried the whole time they sewed me up and finished. DD1 got to meet her "baby sissy Lyssa" and hold her before my mom took her home.

After everything was over, DH ran and got me some food. I ate then breast fed Alyssa and just stared/cuddled her all night. Here are some pictures of our newest squish.

This is all of us
