Did you get offered the NT scan?

My doctor didn't bring it up at my last appointment. She did ask us questions about having any genetic defects in our families and questions along those lines. My next appointment is at 12 weeks so I'm thinking maybe they don't offer them to everyone at this practice. The office I went to when pregnant with my son did. We were planning on getting it this time around so I'm not sure if I should call and ask or wait until my 12 week appointment (would this be too late)?

Yes, it was offered at my first appointment and is scheduled for 1/30.  It needs to be done between weeks 11-13, so I'd call rather than wait.

I think the first blood draw and U/S is done between 11+ and 13 weeks. I would call this week sometime and ask if you should expect one at your 12 wk visit, or do they offer it? I think it would be weird if they planned to do it, but didn't mention at your last appt

I thought the NT was more standard of care now, but I've seen a few posters mention it either wasn't offered or not covered by insurance unless they were high-risk

I was told this was an option at my first appointment. My next appointment isn't until about 11 weeks. They gave me the literature but didn't tell me a deadline to decide.

They definitely don't plan on doing it at that appointment because I ask what the next appt would consist of and it was just the basics. I thought maybe they would schedule it at that appointment but if it needs to be done by 13 weeks they wouldn't be scheduling it that late.

With all four of my pregnancies (2 different providers) so far it has just been a regular part of my prenatal care.  They just say, we're sending your info to Dr. X's office and they'll be calling you to set up your screening ultrasound. I didn't even realize it was something people considered optional until I joined TB during my last pregnancy.

Yeah. I'm really disappointed they didn't offer it to me. I guess I will call about it tomorrow.

Yes- it was offered when I went to my early pregnancy class at my OB's office when I was 9 weeks, and they stated that they offer it to all patients.  I made the NT scan appt. for 1/31.  My OB made sure offered it again at my 11 week appointment, just in case I wasn't aware that I could sign up for it.

It's not part of my new OB's office standard of care (which it was in a different office with my daughter 4 years ago). We opted for the elective non-invasive Maternit21 blood test, which I got done at 10 weeks and am anxiously and nervously waiting for the results soon!

You actually have until 13w6d to do it, so a little bit longer, but as others have mentioned, it's more accurate the closer you do it to 11w. That said, the earliest I was able to schedule mine was for the very last possible day, so that's when I'll be doing it. It was considered optional by my OB's office and it's not done in their office but in a specialist's office, but my insurance covers it in full.

I just checked the paper they gave me at my first appointment and it says as routine care they offer quad screening between 15-20 weeks. I did also have a paper about the NT scan explaining what it is but it doesn't say it is part of their routine care as it says about the quad screening. I'm really not even sure what the quad screen is! Off to check on that one!

This sounds like my OB practice too. With my first pregnancy I was not offered the NT, but the quad screen was standard. Haven't had my appointment yet this time, but I'm planning to bring it up when I go tomorrow.

My OB didn't mention it at my first appt. I think they only do it for high risk.  I go again on Wed so I'll see what he says. I'm on the fence about it anyway,  so it was no big deal.  If you planned on having one,  I'd call and ask.

Nope, was not offered. They asked about genetic disorders in the families and there aren't any.

I'm using the same doctor as last time, and my understanding is that if there's not a specific reason to do it, she doesn't even bring it up.

I had a similar experience. It was discussed at my first appointment (8w2d). I was given the information and told to call to schedule if I was interested. OB said it was totally optional as we have no family history and I am in my 20s. DH and I decided we are going to skip it.

At my first appointment the dr asked if the nt scan was something I was interested in .. I left the office undecided but when I got home and looked through the papers they gave me, they had already scheduled the test for me. I'm assuming bc I am prescribed suboxone and that puts me at a higher risk for some things to go wrong? I wanted the test either way.. I actually go tomorrow morning.

My dr. told me it was optional when I went in for my 7w appt. I just went in for my 12 week last week and I told her I want to do it and she sent me off to the lab right then and there! They take measurements from your ultrasound (behind the neck) and look for a nose bone, then at the lab they prick your finger and take four blots on a lab-sheet. Painless and easy.
